That's F#cked up! I don't know how/why people would just stand there and watch without helping that poor bastard.

Evidently, they do. Little ones that can injure 9 people, because no one will help.

even if its just 4 feet its still a wild and very dangerous animal with 2 inch claws and huge canines, but they shouldve tried something to scare the bear away

It is a little F*cked up, but I think the crime rate in Japan is very low and traumatic events may not be so common there Vs. USA. They may have been "shell shocked" and froze.

But I'm sure there are some in Japan that would have helped.

No reported deaths last I heard.

Still. One 4 foot Bear against 3 Adult men?? Sure the Men would get some hurt inflicted, but it could save somone. Even if ONE person was to intervien, the bear could have been frieghtend enough to flee into the woods, and that would have prevented other injuries. Bears arent killing machines, and can be scared off. I have no doubts that if ONE person would have steped up, screamed and charged the bear, it would have fled.

i agree, especially black bears. they scare pretty easily unless they have cubs. then they will mess your ass up. but why wasn't that dude moving? i would have at least flailed my arms and screamed like a woman

Injuries sustained were up to, and including "Critical". Perhaps He/She was unconcious?

how easy would it have been, to have grabbed a larger stick....from the surrounding wilderness...and just club the shit out of the back of the bears head/face...you don't even have to knock it out or anything, just scare it away and the problem would have been solved...this is classic case of diffusion of responsibility, happens all the time with large groups of people, i bet if one person was brave enough to go help, others would have followed
