I got a gym membership 2 weeks ago and I have to say it feels so fucking amazing to be getting back into shape.

Last week I lost 4 pounds and gained 3 pounds of muscle. After every workout I'm pretty worn out but a few hours later I just want to go back and work out again tomorrow. It feels so good to be seeing some progress. :D

Any ways I had to share my excitement somewhere lol

Eh, hate to burst your bubble, but it's damn near impossible to gain more than around pound a month of muscle without steroids. Even on steroids, people only gain around 1.5-2 lbs of muscle a week. There are "newbie gains" that some folks new to lifting get, but that's only around 2 lbs per month or so at best.

Hey, keep it up though. If you're eating right, you'll put on some mass!

2.6 lbs of muscle per week? Go on a 6 month bulk and you could put on 62 lbs of muscle...why aren't you competing in Mr. Olympia?

I went from 182 to 209 in 12 weeks, which is 27 lbs @ 2.25 lbs per week, but it damn sure wasn't all muscle

No worries man I'm definitely a newbie

I have never really done weight training before this other than the odd unit in high school.

Get your diet right and you can put on tons of mass in your first year. I went from 144 to 165 in my first year. I've steadily added on 10-12 lbs a year since then. I'm at 209 now. Nothing beats first year gains, but I cannot emphasize how important diet is. You've got to eat to grow.

But I did say how good it is that he's in the gym and that he can put on weight....if he eats good!

I mean, at least he's not Crossfitting. AMIRYTE?!?!?

Dem Newb gainz! Wish I still saw gainz as quick as I did when I first got in there. It would be easier to go every day...

Honestly I'm pretty chubby atm. I'm 6' and sitting at 204 now.

The trainer I talked to suggested that I should try to get down to 195 my goals were to get a bigger upper body and to lose my gut I have going on and then work from there. I do have a pretty high body fat percentage (24% IIRC) so I should be aiming to lose some amount of weight to start off with right?

Sorry if these are really dumb questions. I just want to make sure I'm on the right track here.

Could you guys recommend any good resources out there for someone trying to learn about some of this stuff?

If you want to lose fat/weight, eat right. Yea, you'll need to hit the gym hard, but EAT RIGHT. What I did to lose weight without losing (much) muscle mass, was a low carb, high protein diet.

Since you're just starting out, you'll see your body start toning up pretty quickly.

Just shy of being obese  24% I think...

I started using this app to keep track of what I'm eating. I got a bunch of data from the trainer and it gave me a target calorie count and I've been staying around 100 calories under that target for the last two weeks.
