I, as many of you, have been searching for a used 1st gen tacoma to accompany my 2011 dc tundra. I thought I had one bought but the clutch was bad and I haven't heard back from the guy on how it is running now.... In any case, found a 2002 silver 3.4 Litre V6, 5-speed,xtracab trd with

Donahoe racing Icon Vehicle Dynamics 2.5 in. racing front coil overs - rebuilt 8/2014. Engine has 117,802miles
    Bilstein 5100 rear shocks.
Deaver Leaf Springs 2 in. lift.
Alpine stereo CDA-9487 with iPod/iPhone kit
    JL Audio XR front speakers
    Alpine V12 Amp MRV-F345
Profile AP 600 California 600 Watt AMP for subwoofer

    New Clutch Master/Slave Cylinder 2012
Timing belt, drive belts, water pump 11/2014

Guy is wanting $12,000 in the panhandle area of Texas..... decent deal????

Also found a 2002 with 176,000 Sr5 with the same specs except not the TRD and suspension is stock .... they want $10,300 definitely leaning towards the silver one as its pretty much setup the way I would want except for black wheels and probably a front and rear bumper replacement----- what say y'all?

I think the price is a "little" high but then all that stuff has value if you would want to add it so I wouldn't say its too high, just depends how much value you put on what he added. in my mind no truck is worth more then book value because I keep them in stock condition.

according to Kelly blue book that truck, in stock condition, is worth: http://www.kbb.com/toyota/tacoma-double-cab/2002-toyota-tacoma-double-cab/4wd-4d/?condition=very-good&vehicleid=4884&intent=buy-used&options=188725%7ctrue&pricetype=private-party

show the guy the true blue book value of the truck and act like all that stuff he did to the truck you not only don't care about but wished it was stock and say you want all the parts he took off of it so you can take all that crap off and make it stock again. this takes away his idea of all that stuff adds a lot of value and most guys think every dollar they spend on accessories and stuff for the truck makes it worth ten times more then those parts would cost if bought another truck and you bought those parts and added it yourself.

when you buy it you can sell all those removed parts for good money and if he doesn't have those parts you can say you have to spend money buying them to undo all what he did. this keeps him off guard and unable to be in a good position to demand more then book value

I guess I am wondering what is too much to pay and then what is a good, decent, or incredible deal ...

book value is fair for both so offer just that and hand him the Kelly blue book printout on his truck so he can see he is overpriced and try to be firm that that is all you are willing to pay since that is fair value and all the truck is worth, if he is having none of it then tell him to set a reasonable price or you aren't interested. he will always take less then asking price and people always ask at least $1,000 more then they would be willing to settle for when they put a price on selling a car.

at the end of the day if you can pay what he wants and you see he wont go any lower, then if it is what you want, does it really matter if you overpay to get exactly what you want?
