Nice. I posted a black Friday find on that one for $115. Love my older version of that one. Wonder if the dimmer works better on this one because on mine it really doesn't do anything.

Oh, I'm not trying to say that everything is fine. Just pointing out that Toyota knows that there is slop in the design and they don't consider it "bad" until there's at least an inch of play.

    Ah, gotcha.

I know my wide tires come into play greatly on my steering. It's much better now with the poly bushings and new tie rods than it was. Only thing left is the slip joint, which is barely noticeable under normal driving conditions. It's annoying when off roading though.

Yeah. I keep ignoring mine. Get a nice bunch of klunks from underneath the dash when terrain gets rough enough.

Man, my truck is getting old. More and more stuff slowly going wrong. I wish I had the time and spare parts bin large enough to tear it down and rebuild it.

I just pulled my throttle body to clean it and found the idle speed allen screw was blown out completely with nothing left of the allen socket, it was just peeling open so some jack leg before me must have cranked on it without loosening the lock nut or tightend the lock nut by cranking on the set screw, either way it was trashed.

once I had it on the bench I could also see the idle screw wasn't even touching the throttle when cold which I wasn't expecting so its important to never adjust it with a cold engine.

I replaced the allen screw with a much easier to adjust Phillips head screw from ace hardware (5mmx25mm) and its so much easier to adjust now instead of trying to fight with a small allen wrench.

Toyota designed it for allen screwdrivers but most people don't have these so if anyone out there wants to convert theirs to a more logical solution go to the hardware store and buy a 5mm x 25mm Phillips screw to replace it with.

I replaced both the idle screw and the fast idle solenoid adjusting screw and I am looking for a tension spring to fit these screws so I can also get rid of the impossible to get to locking nut so if I find one I will let you know.

Haha that was really my only clunk while in NM. Now I have many more noises though...

    - One of the pulley's during the cold
    - Squeaky leaf springs
    - rattling exhaust at certain rpm's
    - squeaking u-joints/carrier bearing

There are some days that I wish I could start over, but oh well.

Are you sure you aren't driving my truck? Add a very audible clunk when the body sways while turning and we'd have all the same stuff lol.

I get a random front end clunk every now and then when hitting the speed bumps on base. Close enough, right? Haha

Sometimes when I go over a speedbump or similar my shifter seems like its going to pop out of drive, freaks me out a bit

Your motor and/or trans mounts are probably wearing out. As those wear the motor flops around more. My shifter constantly popped out of D in the whoops until I solid mounted the engine and trans

Ahhh dont tell me that lol those sound like a pain to replace. Solid mounting would only be a good idea with lt/ cage right?

    Probably haha
I say squeaking u-joints, but I'm 99% sure it's the carrier bearing considering everything but that is solid.

All that FSM "allowable play" would have to be in the slip joint, no thanks.

The FSM is frequently wrong, frequently contradicts itself, want's you to accept mediocre and sometimes sounds like it's coming from another universe. Take the "1 inch free play" bit and try to support that by the cumulative play they allow in all the steering components, which is zero.

Absolutely no play in the steering just feels and sounds so so nice, ask anyone who has done it. I do agree that this fix does not do much for real world handling outside of extreme cases but most all the folks say "feels like a new truck".

The FSM is far from perfect, it's just way better than what ever is in second place.
