See my quote above. It WILL be an all-new design. People got their panties in a bunch because they saw them testing a current Tacoma. That is common for them to do. Testing new powertrains in current sheet metal helps keep things on the DL.

 

The only people who really care what the next gen will be are people who are irritated that their current truck is still the fucked up version, and hope the next iteration will fix all the common problems they're stuck with like poor mileage, poor performance, poor interior quality, poor suspension materials, crappy leafs, fragile tailgates, and non heated mirrors.

Yet this "crappy" truck has highest resale value of ANY truck small or large- sized.

 

My bet is that the body style will remain UNCHANGED. They will address frame and leaf spring concerns/issues, add a 6 speed tranny option and introduce a diesel 4 cyl option to keep up with the GMs. Likely we will finally see some "luxury" things like power seats, light sensing headlights, homelink options, better interior look and feel overall (leather stitching etc) but no big, massive changes outside.

I am ok with the truck remaining visually the same. I just bought my 2014 double cab TRD Off Road this past summer and I have loved the look of it since they trimmed up the front a little back a couple model years ago. I think it's a very appealing truck and will easily lead the small/mid size market by just addressing a few mechanical issues.

 

Sure does, but can't ride the coat tails forever. At some point, either the constant problems will yield issues in depreciation, or the values will stay and quality will rise. Can't span the gap indefinitely.

Still feel that if the Tacoma wasn't a Toyota and had the same issues/history of issues, the story would be different. Toyota branding is a positive buoyant.

You're right it can't ride the coat tails forever HENCE WHY ITS GETTING REDESIGNED! This is a Taco forum. Shouldn't people be stoked? It's been 10 years.

Company executives at all kinds of companies have always been know to be 100% truthful eh? You sure seem to be hanging on to that one comment pretty hard. Bottom line is that NO ONE here really knows. Until January, let the fun of speculation proceed.

I cant see them keeping the decade old body style with outdated utilitarian interior any longer now that gm has come out with some competition. New redesign is needed whether you think your outdated truck is nice looking or not.

 

Oh come on, my first gen still has a fresh, stylish look to it 10 years later. Your 06 will still look good even when the new 3rd gen comes out. Toyota trucks look good no matter the age imo. Even a rusty old beat up 80s Pickup looks sweet in my eyes.
