I loved my Carolina's, they just didn't last very long walking around on concrete all the time.. Bought a pair of Red Wings in February and they still look brand new (tread wise. the toes are a little torn up). Vibram soles FTW

Have you considered having the toes coated? I had my last pair done and loved it. Great for working on the knees.

Hell yes, Vibram FTMFW. Wearing a pair of Redheads with Vibram/GoreTex. Had them five years and I don't know how long my friend wore them before me.

Nice! yea, my Red Wing's were around $240, but they are steel toe, fully waterproof leather uppers, and a Vibram sole. The uppers have an unlimited lifetime warranty on them, and for around $60 I can have them re-soled by the Red Wing factory. I've had them in about 4" of standing water with no problems what-so-ever.

I reckon that's why it's nice to get them new. These were hand me downs from a buddy. Only thing wrong with them is I need new laces. But dad manages a shoe store, so that won't be hard or too expensive to do.

 

I had my Red Wing store do it, was $32 or something? I had brown leather GoreTex boots with steel toes and anti slip soles, and used the brown coating. I really loved them, didn't love the looks at first but damn if they aren't beautiful in utility. My current boots are moc toe and no toe caps, so I didnt do it again. But I won't buy another set of steel toes for work without the coating. Totally worth it IMO.

Couldn't wear those in my line of work. If I could, I probably would. But construction+loafers= probably not a good combo.
