How deep are you wanting the drawers? Depending on how deep and how much weight, you'll need some very heavy duty slides.

Not a "carpenter", but a HavAst decent woodworker. Full shop at home, and many tools here at my store. Got a rollup door in the warehouse you could back into. What did ya have in mind. This is what I put in mine...

Pete, are those new shocks I see in your truck?

I currently have this set up -

    photo-9.jpg

It works pretty well. The downside is that I have a hard time reaching items at the front of the bed. I built in some hatches up front to reach those items. It's a pain to get in there with all the bedding in the way. A set of drawers would eliminate that.

Here's what I'm thinking. The driver side drawer will be 6 feet long. My spare tire is going to be in front of the passenger wheel well at some point. An auxiliary gas tank is going where the spare is. The passenger drawer will either be short or have a big indentation into the back end of it for the spare tire to fit.

I would like to dado cut grooves into the insides of the drawers to put wood dividers to help with organization.

The short drawer will house my kitchen stuff for camping. The long side will have everything else...recovery gear etc. I'd like to keep the spaces directly behind the wheel wells accessible as they are. The spaces in front of the wheel wells will be occupied by the spare tire some day and a second marine deep cycle battery, also someday.

One thing regarding the kitchen drawer. I frequently use my tailgate for cooking on. with the kitchen drawer open there would be little space for cooking. I've seen a couple drawer systems where they recessed the bottom of the drawer a couple inches and installed a slide out table top that stores away under the drawer. like this-
    drawerextention.jpg

Slides for a 6 foot long drawer would cost $600 - $800 which I cannot justify. Also, the slides themselves complicate the system and take up storage space.

I've seen this stuff used on several systems and it's super cheap.

For materials I'd like to use 1/2" plywood for the top of the platform and the bottom where the drawers will slide and 1/2" for the bottoms of the drawers.
3/4" plywood for the vertical supports of the platform and the sides of the drawers. My thinking is that the 3/4" will be easier to dado for the notches for the dividers. Oh and 1/2" for the dividers.

Think modular boxes....any size you want or need. You can build boxes of any size and attach them to each other to custom fit whatever you need. Basically a drawer is a box inside a box. The type of slides you use depend on depth and loaded weight. Come by sometime and we can draw out some ideas.

And yes those were new adjustable Bilsteins and ToyTec AAL I put on earlier this fall.

That sux! Sorry to hear that. Maumelle's not as safe as it used to be - all the apartments in NLR side of the Blvd. Got a picture of it for a BOLO - I'll let my son know at MHS.

That sucks. Are you in an apartment or house/duplex? Just wondering what your security sitation was.

I'm hoping to put mine on soon and with the brackets I'm making they'd pretty much need a grinder to get the bar off unless they break the window and open the doors. Hopefully it won't come to that.

Thanks. Yea, I agree. I've been noticing the population climb drastically here and it only gets worse. Plus, holidays use to be the time for giving. Now it's more the time for taking.

It's just your standard 40" double row. Flood pattern outside and spot on the inside. The casing had faded due to poor anodizing so it's like a bronze color. They cut it pretty short. I'd say they're probably only like 3 or 4" of exposed wire off the bar cus most of the wire was tucked away. Was an older MicTuning bar. I think it said MicTuning on the top across the fins.

I live in a Town Home. Pretty nice area, don't see too many rough people roaming around. It's a pretty enclosed area, surprised no one saw him/her/them. I didn't have any security bolts on the bar. With a person on each side it's a less than 2 min job. I'll look into them this time.
