Yep! My 96 were cracked. My 00 didn't have any problems tho. 05 ugh, 2 leafs were shite, replaced with the 3's that are now flat.

Local service rep said they are doing a complete resign which is why it's taking so long. Also said no clips!

I doubt they would just use a clip. The risk of it breaking or coming loose & puncturing the tank is too great. Idk, maybe we all get steel gas tanks again?!?

The dealer also said I would have to come back when they figure out a fix for the recall. I asked if he had any idea what the fix would be, and he said he didn't have any idea, but "Toyota needs to get thier shit together." I'm on my second set of stock springs. Hopefully they will reimburse me for the ones I paid for. I didnt ask yet. Want to get my new leafs first.

I have to agree with you there. I have a second set on which are flat now. You would think by now they could figure it out.
Same as frames... after that last major recall on frames you wouldn't think they would want to go through that again but there is now a frame rust recall.

Probably a stupid question but if you are not the original owner can you expect a letter? Never been involved in a recall until now

    Thanks

That's fine but when you go back for the stiffer set and they are no better than the first set, there is no excuse for that. It should be the other way around, you buy a truck and if you find the ride too rough, you buy or they replace with lighter ones for you. They should start out with good heavier springs. If you want a car, buy a car.

You might not get a letter so you probably should go to a dealer and make sure the vehicle is registered with Toyota in your name. Not sure but you might be able to go to the Toyota website and register the VIN using the OWNERS tab at the very top and right of center

I received my recall notice yesterday,, I will have to wait and see what remedy Toyota has in mind,, if it is just a clip of some sort, (which I am anticipating) I am going to decline & take my chances. I don't haul much, & did have the Suspension upgrade. If they should break I will deal with Toyota at that time. jmop

Got mine yesterday. I anticipate problems because I had a spring company add a third leaf to my 2006 Tacoma, and gained 2" of lift and tall bump stops. I'll fight, because my dealer told me to go to an independent for a third leaf, as they (the dealer) did not do spring additions. I'll put off my front lift until the dust settles.

Bumping this one. I just got a letter in the mail from Toyota Canada regarding the springs. Just said that they're working on a solution and to wait, out.

Has anyone had experience with having a recall honoured in another country? Since I'm currently living in the US and unable to go back to Canada just to have this done.

Im not the original owner. I received a letter last week. I have taken my truck to a dealer to get some work done before. I think as long as your info is at any dealer you can get a letter. The actual recall has not been issued yet i believe.

I’m not the original owner of my truck either and i got a letter this past week.

if someone dose not get a letter the dealer and look it up.

Back when the recall for the clock spring/spiral cable came out a bunch of people said they would only do it if air bag light was on. well the locale dealer just did it one day when i went in for an oil change, never even had the recall notice with me.

I live in Nova Scotia, my truck was purchased new in the US. First mention of TSB on rear springs and my local dealer switched the springs without any problem. Since that I have had all other recalls done too (steering cable, seatbelt, Frame Rust inspection and repair) No problems. that was the first thing I checked out before buying in the US and Toyota assured me there would be no problem. I did have to call to have my info switched so I should recieve notices (mine is a 2008 and I only recently called about the info. I'm a little slow on the draw) but even without that, Toyota or yourself can put in your VIN and see which outstanding recalls are on your vehicle. When the fix arrives for rear springs, I'll be in line for repair, letter or no letter.

i had the "weak springs" TSB done a few years back and they already installed the clips to keep them together

I recd a spring issue notice last week.
It is just a preliminary notice.
Had truck in for seat belt, gas pedal & frame inspection last week.
They could not do spring inspection as dealership did not have any info or parts to perform spring work. They did not know if rebuild or new springs would be fix.
    Details to follow.
By the way, new frame on the way.

    Wouldn't you like to know!
I got the notice early last month in the mail. Went to the dealer and they told me to wait until you get another notice saying that toyota has issued the authorization of the repair/replacement of the springs.

I'm just noting something that actually says a replacement leaf spring assembly instead of just a clip.
