Trying to find a used engine, help?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I've been looking for a 2.4liter motor for my 95 Tacoma. We use the truck for work and we've had a hard time finding a trusting site. Just wondering if any of you out there can help a fellow Tacoma owner out, it would be appreciated

Check the junk yards in your area. ask a local mechanic--someone you know.

 

There are a few million online parts sites available, I think most of them pull from the same database and just middleman the parts out. I had to buy a 2.7l 8 port last year, put in a few parts requests and got a few dozen quotes by email within a few days.

I almost guarantee the company I went through never laid eyes on the engine itself, they were in florida. The first engine came in from I think michigan, 2nd from New York if memory serves. 1st engine was really clean but a trashed core with single digit compression, 2nd engine was a lot dirtier but worked well. I paid 1200-1600 including shipping, the shipping back on the 1st one was their dime.

 

get a 2.7 engine, they are identical, everything from the 2.4 bolts right on, but the 2.7 has a few extra hp and will be a lot easier to find and with a lot less miles on it.

not hard to find 2.7 engines with 75k-100k miles and make sure that it came from wrecked trucks so you know it runs good

 

I would sale you mine with automatic tranny if I can find a 3.4L

 

from what I understand the trannys are the same so you will just need a tranny adapter plate to bolt your tranny over to that v6 so you might want to keep the tranny

not sure about the motor swap stuff though, will the v6 drop right in or do you need different motor mounts? whats involved in that?

 

I would buy a v6 motor with a v6 5spd tranny
