Blower Motor Replacement

    Has anyone ever replaced their heater/ac blower motor in a 96 Tacoma? It's on my list of projects for the weekend, but I'm not sure if I have to pull the dash, or pull the heater from the engine. I've heard both... a step by step or some thorough advice would be great! Also, is there any preventative care that I can do to keep the motor from breaking again?

    I wish it was a cheap easy fix, but it was $60 at the local parts store... when I was truck shopping a lot of the truck's blower motors didn't work, so I didn't bother going to a junk yard to get one... figured a newer one would have a better survival rate :)

    The blower motor resistor is bad. It will be attached to the blower motor where the power wires come in.

    Do you know if the resister is malfunctioning will it burn up the motor real fast? I just replaced the motor, and 2 weeks later it started to sound stressed, like a whining noise, so I haven't used it all week. I'm worried the motor is burning up already, but I don't understand how?

    No, when the resistor malfunctions, you will start to lose the lower fan speeds. Eventually you will only have the high speed.
