Yeah man, that looks like fun :) definitely will give peace of mind, plus I'll be able to spend more time campo and less time splitting.

Good to know! Thanks for 'weighing' in. One reason I got to thinking about the boxing kit from tg, is I could hang shocks off the cross bar. We'll see. Gonna quote it out with a shop and see what's up. Otherwise I'll probably get the BAMF relocation done and add kings. But that's a lot o $$. Lots to think about. Just gonna take it easy til I get something :)

I welded my shock relocation inside the channel of the frame and it is plenty strong. I wouldn't be afraid to do it one way over the other.

Interesting. I don't see it in your thread, but got any pics? What length shocks are you running in the rear, and did you gain much clearance?

If I don't have pics in my thread I don't have any more unless you find a link to my photo bucket; there may be some in there. I have 14" short bodies, which are way too long now that I relocated. Since they are closer to the center of the axle they don't articulate much, so I would think a 10" may even be enough. I don't know what you mean by clearance, but I gained clearance where the shock mounts were I guess. If you mean flex, I have no idea. I don't think it did a whole lot to be honest. My leaf pack is definitely the limiting factor in flex.

Gotcha, thanks! Yeah I meant flex. Can't wait til finals are done... So fried.

I'm thinking my ome shocks might be better off in that config. Will look under and make some measurements and try and picture where you located the top portion to haha. What did you use for relocation? Just two sets of the trail gear weld on mounts?

I'm back at my computer so I did some digging. I pretty much followed this guy's write up. The shock mounts are these. The usual haters said that those mounts weren't going to hold up and the design was worthless, but if they work for the sprint cars around here (Iowa is the dirt track capital of the world), I was confident it would be fine for my use. So far it's been great.

Look closely and you can see the black tube running along the top where my shocks are mounted.

Yep, that's the pic I found on your bucket :) Ok, so that is pretty much exactly the design Jerry uses for his setup, if I'm not mistaken. That may be easier to do - start with the Outside frame plates, then add on the crossmember later. Less headache. Im curious what the boxing will cost comparatively, prolly still gonna get a quote just to see.

Thanks for digging that pic out and including the links.

The studs I used are designed to use the ball bearing shock bushings, but I am running rubber bushings with no issue. I had to change them from the 3/4" that Toyota mounts need to a standard 5/8" that the new studs are. If you buy new high dollar shocks they will most likely come with 5/8" ball bearing bushings. Mine did, then I threw them away when I was running my shocks in the stock location. Jerry's is double shear so the load is dispersed to both sides of the mount, where mine is all focused on the point where the stud is bolted to the tube. This has not caused any issues for me though.

Oh, ok. I totally missed that. You all are so wise... :) when I'm ready for a shock move or upgrade I'll revisit and see wth makes sense for my needs :)

There are several ways to skin a cat so do your due diligence before welding anything permanent to your truck. I chose my way because I already had the tube and could drill it easily, so it was cheap. Sure a double shear custom designed cnc cut bracket would be sweet, but I don't know how long I will keep this setup anyway so I didn't put too much time or money into it. Hell, mine was free by the time I sold the 2nd one I made.
