    alright guys, heres my new bumper that i've been working on in my college Fabrication class:D. What do you think of it?:confused:
    Its all Aluminum, and i can pick it up by myself; its only about 75-80 pounds i'd estimate. Its still in the build process, but its getting pretty close to done now, maybe 80% done or so. Once i get it done i just need to decide whether i want to polish it to a mirror-like finish, or have a friend of mine powdercoat it white to match the truck. Any opinions?:cool:

    Looks like you've got a hawse fairlead on there but no opening for the line. Is the intention to mount a winch or am I looking at a license plate mount? If the intention is to run a winch, just make sure everything is strong enough to hold up. I'd hate to see you get into a bind, pull out the cable, and have something nasty happen to your rig.

    Looks good! I like your take on the "angry hoops" that some of the guys on TTORA build for the older Tacomas. Works very well with the style of the late-model headlights. :thumbsup:

    Thanks for the responses everyone! Yeah, thats a billet hawse on there, cuttin out the hole is one of the next things on my list, right along with my shackle anchors and some more 1/2" mounting brackets to make it nice and rigid. My whole plan was to keep it as light as possible so the billet hawse is intended for a winch with a synthetic rope, as that will knock off about 10-15 pounds from a winch and is safer and easier to handle.

    any reason why you chose aluminum over steel? just weight?

    i like the overall design...but i think if it were me i'd have tried to keep the bottom of it tucked up a little more

    you did an excellent job of matching the lines on the tube work with the body

    well, i chose aluminum over steel for the obvious weight advantage, but also my house is about 1/4 mile from the ocean so i get ALOT of rust on steel where i live. we had a 16' big tex flatbed that rotted out in about 3 years, and i prefer to fab with aluminum too, so i deciced that aluminum would be a much better choice(also, we now have 3 aluminum trailers. flat gave up on steel).
    as far as having the bottom tucked up more, the bottom is actually closer to the truck than the stock one. its tucked up so close that the plate has about 1/8" clearance from the little tow hook on the front of it actually. It's closer to the body than the stock one all the way around i think, even.:)

    i guess its the angle...or maybe im used to looking at my arb...but it just looked like the bottom hung down a good ways...

    another plus i think over the stocker for ya though is the slope at the bottom...

    definately a cool design

    Yeah, actually i designed it to have the bend at the bottom transition nicely with a skid plate to the front drop down brackets if i install the 6" lift like i've been wanting:D. just need some more money. Its also nice because even though i didnt increase my approach angle much, i dont have to worry about rubbing it on the dirt and rocks.
    Also, the steel prices here were pretty outrageous.... it probably would have cost me more to build out of steel! Crazy!:eek:
