The midsize segment has been stagnant, while the fullsize segment has had the Ecodiesel, Ecoboost, 4-link airbag rear axle, cylinder deactivation... In Motor Trend's eyes, Colorado represents a bigger advancement to the midsize segment.

Another example of bland vehicle winning the Car of the Year award: 1993 Ford Anal Probe. Motor Trend gave it the award because it made the biggest advancement to the halfassed FWD sports coupe segment.

I agree it has made the most change in the midsize market, but an aluminum pickup hasn't been done before, Gm just scaled down the silvy and threw a car engine in it and called it a day. Plus I have seen 2 negatives that stand out in almost every review i read, Transmission up/downshifts to much and its lack of power off the line.

Anyways in other news, looks like Toyota is going to release the new Tacoma at the Detroit show!

The only one that looks remotely appealing to me is that 2.8 diesel, but it is still just a concept.

^You are a little behind the program. ;) Pictures with aftermarket leveling kit installed are already out:

The diesel loses its spare tire to make room for the urea tank.

That sucks, you would think the engineers would come up with a better location for the urea tank

Not many of them in Atlanta yet, but I got to test (both gas burners) drive a Chevy Colorado and a GMC Canyon yesterday.

Mixed emotions about them. They seem bigger and both were in the $38K to $39K range with dealer goodies. IMO, I liked the way the GMC way trimmed out better. I would not buy one at that price and watch it drop $6k driving off the lot.

Overall, quick opinion = I would even take a "design dated Gen 2 Tacoma" in a heartbeat over either one.

When the Gen 3 Tacoma comes out, I sure hope Toyota Corp. has listened to the previous owners and keeps it small and upgrades the interior and adds a few goodies.

I just hope the engineers don't put the filler cap in the bed. :D How it's done in the Cruze diesel, clearly an afterthought:

Good point ... Yep, I meant fatter.

Owned a bunch of Toyota trucks (all models & sizes) and my favorite size was my 2004 Gen 1 or my old R-22. :D

Yes, but this is GM we are talking about. The Silverado's DEF tank is under the front passenger seat, dragging below the frame:

Of course it interferes with running board installs.

Agreed. That diesel they brought over for the full sized Transit would be pretty sweet in a new Ranger though. Wishful thinking never hurts, I had a 2007 4x4 Ranger and if it wasn't for my ex I'd still have it. They were great but antiquated trucks, just like the Tacoma is now.

That makes sense if Ford wants to go after the commercial small truck market again. If they price the truck 5 K under everyone else and size it as a compact I think they will have a ton of success.

I like it and you like it.
But what happens is the market says:
"I just want a basic little bare bones truck....
with power everything, heated everything, climate control, infotainment, full time 4wd with 4 lockers, 5-ton cargo capacity, 6 ft ground clearance, 500hp, 45mpg, a sunroof, made from ballistic titanium, color changing paint/lighting depending on my mood, and more gizmos than the Mach 5. Oh, and a pony."
Then we complain the basic little bare bones truck weighs 3 tons and costs 50k. People are funny. :D
