Don McGill Toyota in Houston is trying to void my warranty. I came to Houston for a wedding. I noticed vibration worsening as I ran some errands then the metal on metal noise from the carrier bearing started. Needing it fixed I took it to the nearest dealership. I also found the TSB on the driveshaft for my truck model with same symptoms. I recieved a call at closing advising me of what I already knew and that my warranty was now voided and TSB would not cover repairs due to me putting offroad 33" tires and them finding signs of mud under it. I live on a ranch and own a TRD offroad doublecab 4x4... 2013 and still under warranty.

    I need help.

I may be wrong, but I thought any modification to the suspension voided the warranty?

tires and lift do not void the warranty on oem parts that are still in place. again i hate how toyota dealerships are privately owned, they can make the decisions and you have no one to complain to. just try another dealership, etc until they fix it. besides i do not get why the dealership would turn down warranty work, that is where they make most of their money! not on sales! toyota pays them full price for warranty repairs/labor.

Only on the actual mods themselves, or, the direct cause of a warranty part failure? I think there's a law on it?

2" lift. They said the tire size put stress on the driveshaft and caused the issue.

Look up the magnusson-moss act. The failure has to be a direct cause of the mod. The dealer is wrong.

This is bull. It's an off-road truck, did they really expect it not to get lifted and have tires put on it.

33yrs has it dead on. A dealership CANNOT under any circumstance void your warranty. First off, the dealership is a franchise. They do not own Toyota, and it is TOYOTA that offers the warranty, not the dealership. So there is no way, shape, form, or manner, that ANY dealership can void your warranty.

Second, Toyota can only void a specific claim on a repair, and then ONLY if they can PROVE that the modification was the cause of the failed part. They cannot blanket-void a warranty just because you made a modification. PERIOD.

Your warranty is not voided...that specific repair is. Some dealers over look such things but some don't. They aren't wrong for doin so though so all u guys saying they can't do it...you're wrong. Toyota specifically asks if there are any modifications to the trucks whenever I call in a claim. It also depends on the person you're dealing with. If I was handling your vehicle I would get it repaired under warranty. It's not that huge of a repair to put up a red flag from Toyota corp.

Situation sucks...u can try another dealer and hopefully one of them will over look it. Good luck to you.

My suggestion, call Toyota Corporate. As I said, the dealership itself cannot void a warranty or a repair. It is not their call.
