Id say it will be about 60% camping and wheeling and 40% staying put when I am in state parks and such...

Right now I have no clue where ill be based so the offroading and camping could be way different... I might not wheel say if I get stationed down in florida... Theres just mud and flat ground down there... But if I get thrown up in the PNW or alaska Ill be doing alot of wheeling...

I think I am just going to go with the Shasta because it will get used... I used to camp alot as a kid and itd take 30-45 min to set up tents in the dark... If I am in a serious rush or I plan on hitting the trail early and not stalling or dragging ass the annex wont go up...

And if I bring more than say 3 people I can sleep them all in the tent and annex... Ive got 5 siblings and they all like camping... As they get older (theyre all younger then me) Id like to be able to take them around the country being that Ill be moving around every few years or so... Hopefully.

But the RTT will be the first thing ordered after basic... If I had one now Id camp every weekend... Id probably never come home...

Yeah man there's a good group of fellas on here that'll help with just about anything, just don't be afriad to ask! :)

Don't forget I have an annex on the Mt. Bachelor too and I also never set it up cuz it takes an extra 5-10 mins. It doesn't have an overhang and you have to exit the annex to go back into the tent but there's still a decent changing area to use. Here is the one time I think I did set it up camping

My lazy ass doesn't want to have to put my shoes on before I get out to take them off and change in the annex mang!

Ive got some smelly ass feet... One reason why I want the Shasta!

Other reason is Ive got 2 generators... They are both silent when they run so they are perfect for camping... I can turn it on and chain it to the truck ... Run an extension cord and a surge supressor and boom not only can I charge my phone, or other things that need charging but I can use an electric heater rather then a butane one that has a flame... Less fire hazard and I don't run out of butane!

Charge your phone in the truck. If you need it as an alarm clock or something install a 12v outlet in the tent. An electric heater gets just as hot as a propane camping heater and a propane heater doesn't necessarily have a flame. And you can run out of gas for a generator or kill yourself from the carbon monoxide blowing into your tent jackass.

I think the carbon monoxide is the least of his worries.

Generator at front of truck tent at the back... I think it'd be fine

That's extremely dangerous. Atleast chain it to a tree 100' away or something

 but a generator plugged into the panel at a house just outside is any better? During sandy we had the generator chained to the garage door roller rails exhaust facing out of the house cause our panel is in the garage... Some people leave their generators under a window or outside a door...

I understand itd be a precautionary thing but I don't see how the CO could even affect you if you leave a zipper window open... Its not like the tent is air tight... And definitely not as tight as a truck... Ive spent a few hours if not more sitting in my truck at my uncles job site counting dumptruck loads not moving windows up and no CO poisoning...

And I was bored as shit the other night so I watched overland expedition when they went to alaska and one of the episodes they had their generator right under the tent.

Like I said I understand its a precautionary measure but the CO would be pretty disappated

A LOT of people die each year from having a generator outside their window/door/ etc.

I'm not the kind of person that feels the need to bring a generator camping so I don't have any first hand experience. If you want to take the chance and risk it, that's on you.

I still don't understand what you need it for anyway. Bringing a generator and gas and a chain and a lock and an extension cord seems stupid to be able to charge a phone, when a 12v charger actually works faster than a 110v charger.

12v plug is the cigarette lighter plug correct? The ones in my truck don't charge my phone worth a crap... Maybe its my battery or the head unit is drawing too much power or a little of both but my phone dies rather then charging.

What about a mobile charger thingy...one of those battery packs that you just plug your phone into. A decent sized one will charge your phone at least 2x

If I was camping with you and you had a genny running all night long, the genny would be missing the next morning. Just throwing it out there.

Get a propane heater, turn it on a couple hours before you're going to go to bed and then just turn it off when you get in the tent
