I may have missed this in other posts, so if i am repeating the same thing others have mentioned... guess i had a Homer moment, DOH! LOL!

i got a letter saying there is a recall on leaf springs on 2005-2011 4x4 and pre-runners. which sounded great! its about time! but i read the REALLY fine print and a quick summary of the REALLY SMALL fine print says basically once a dealer inspects it, IF they find a broken leaf that is knocking on the gas tank, THEN you may get the fix??? what the hell kind of recall is that? what about the fact that the leafs from that era constantly fail and in order to keep them from physically cracking many people installed AAL or helper leaf or air bags to prevent further problems? so if you took steps to prevent the faulty part from leaving you stranded and your leaf springs did not actually physically crack and in doing so puncture your gas tank and explode then they say you do not qualify because not enough damage was done?

just venting i guess, this really pissed me off.

    I thought a recall was a recall?

    anyone else get this letter?

It's deja vu all over again. My letter basically said be patient for your next letter, were still workin on the "remedy" It's kind of like being put on hold for two days while the recording keeps telling you how important your call is to them.

It also states that they may re-imburse you if you already paid to have this fixed BEFORE recieving that letter, or something like that.
I wish I would have replaced the springs earlier and sent them the bill. Looks like it's coming out of my pocket. My springs are flat.

i called toyota, ditto what you said man, its a letter saying you may get another letter... blah blah blah

i asked if there was any other issues or recalls just to see, they said no. i asked about AAL also, told them i have the 3 leaf pack and when i went to the dealership about it since it was not under warranty they would not replace them with 4 leaf packs. so when it started to sag i had AAL installed, and would this affect any recall. they said no, but the recall would only cover the original oem toyota parts that are still in place. what ever that means.

i also reported the temp gauge in the roof again, of course AGAIN they acted like they never heard before, lol! like everything else, maybe if enough people complain they will fix it so we dont have to resolder it ever few years, LOL!

    oh well...

I already have two recall letters on my desk for my tacoma.
If it was a GM product, they would just wait until you were killed.

No. The clip prevents the broken leaf from puncturing the fuel tank.

I am willing to bet the fix will be a clip similar to a split ring hanger.

    I got that same letter.
I've got three of them now.

    1 for spiral spring
    1 for seat belt
    1 for springs

    I know this process well.

what is the seat belt recall all about? never got that one? is it a recall to kill the annoying lights and dings and $h1t when you dont buckle it? i already killed all of that, wonder if they will reimburse me :) or the fact that mine never had a center seat belt in the middle back seat? LOL!

but seriously, what is that one about?

Seatbelt one was for Access Cabs. The .50 nut that holds all of it together could come flying off and if that happens, no seatbelt protection.

Yes, continued vibration could work the nuts loose on the access cab rear door seatbelt, and viola! your through the windshield because your airbag failed to deploy. Dont forget the computer re-flash for the brake override in case your truck runs away! The shaved pedal was my favorite. I feel much safer with the couple MM's they took off. The letter says the dealer will happily answer your questions. What a croc. My local dealer was just bought out by a big conglomerate, and all they want to do is sell me a new truck.

I did not get the spiral cable
The gas pedal problem is a joke.
Checked and put loctite on the seat belt bolt (access cab)
leaf springs-waiting to see what they do if anything, maybe replacing springs myself.
May take it in for the frame inspection but I doubt it will fail, I put alot of work into keeping the rust off. It's soaked in fluid film right now so I don't need their stuff.

it says you have a 2005, all of those have recall on spiral cable. i suggest you check and see, thats a BIG hazard. i put it off until the warning lights on my dash started coming on and off like a pin ball machine. when i brought it in, the dealership changed it no problem, took a couple of hours, they said the fraid wires were affecting my ABS and airbags and its a good thing i came in.
