Just got my Tacoma a couple months ago and looking to do some work on it, what's the best kind of exhaust to get but for a decent price? I've looked up a coule different exhausts but don't know to much about the brands

So far I like my TRD Cat-back. Its not too loud, not too quiet! I had the Magnaflow setup, but was too loud for me. Can't really say anything about other systems.

Def this ^. If you arent going to chop it over the axle and allow it to flow out the back. Sounds great, no drone.

I would of put the TRD on this truck but, hacking up a cat back system makes 0 sense so, I went with a Magnaflow on this truck.

Stock. What is an exhaust going to do for you, really?

For me, personally, spending a grand or so for a different sound is crazy.

If you plan on adding an intake and forced induction, then maybe... but still, no.

    I spent $89.00.
Wondering if you go from thread to thread chanting the same? If not, you should as, there are 100's of useless mods being done daily.
It is a forum full of mods. There has to be something you have altered on your truck that wasn't necessary and that stock would of served much the same purpose.

I blame my useless mods on having testicles and enjoying life with mentioned testicles.

I've modded the heck out of cars. I did intakes, exhausts, suspensions, brakes, tunes, wheels, etc. Looking back on it, I feel a lot of it was a waste of money. Not all of it, mind you, but certainly the exhaust. My testicles are swinging, thanks.

Just stating my opinion from my experience.

Honestly, I never priced one out for the truck. Put a Stillen dual exhaust on my '11 G37 and it was damn near a grand. Had an intake and a tune as well and the gains were negligible.

So... in my experience, the exhaust was really just for sound. Awesome sound, but not worth the price to ME.

I get what you're saying now.

I knew that sound was all I was really going to see from it. There is a better throttle feel in my opinion though. I was happy with stock, but wanted something more. And I liked the TRD tip! I thought $400 was high, but oh well. I have always been used to driving V8's with louder exhausts. This doesn't sound like a V8, but I am happy with how it does!

If you're happy with it, that's all that really matters. Again, was just asking a question of the OP and stating my opinion based on my experience.

Best mod I ever did was coilovers for my G. I went with the KW V3 and holy shit, what a difference. I had the sport suspension already and it still made a world of difference.

I also recommend the TRD. A guy I work with has it on his FJ, I assume it's the same motor. Everytime I hear his, I wish mine sounded like that and less like a Sienna van.

It's not loud and obnoxious at all, more of a deep rumble and growl when he gets it.

I have a '14 Sport DCLB and I went with a Magnaflow system (I remember getting a pretty good deal on a stainless system at the time). I feel it is too loud on acceleration and has a drone type sound BUT I'm living with it and have gotten a bit used to it. In hindsight, I wish I would've gone w/ the TRD catback from what I've heard others say about it.

Had Banks cat-back on my 07 TRD Sport, $1100 installed.
Have the Magnaflow off-road shorty on my 14 Sport, $350 on Amazon, 45 minutes to install.
It depends on how well tuned the stock set up is, then what you choose.
I could see how a factory system on a G37 would have been optimally tuned, so no real difference noted.
I only do the K&N filter, as the intake is already a cold source draw, then the exhaust.
As mentioned by earlier poster, the Magnaflow is loud, but WTF.
Hear a lot of negativity on the intake and exhaust mods. I don't ask anyone for money, so I spend it as I like.
To give credence to the naysayers, I did drive the first test after the Magnaflow install with ear plugs in. I felt the difference.
Enjoy your truck, enjoy how you spend your money.:cool:

the BEST thing to do is find an exhaust shop and have an idea what u want the truck to sound like.
Explain to the tech what u want for sound, and ask him/her to select a couple mufflers that should do the trick and NOT tell you the model/brand.

Have them hookup each muffler with clamps and allow u to start the truck and throw a couple revs..........swap mufflers and repeat.

Once u find the right sound, ask them to weld that muffler on.

the point of NOT knowing the brand/model is so u have an unbiased choice.

kinda like buying speakers.....use ur ears, not ur eyes
