great story! How do you guys find your destinations? You always seem to find these amazingly secluded spots with a great run on the way in. Do you just put your finger on an atlas and say "let's do that"?? Haha. Thanks again for letting me live vicariously through your beautiful photos!

Well..some of it is just research..some of it luck. So,e word of mouth. We usually have the majority of trails we want to do picked out a year or more in advanced. Then we find more trails by them or in the general area. We don't care if we drive a few hundred miles to the next trail. Real planing doesn't start till after Christmas usually. That when we really iron out what we are going to do and time line and routes and such. Dates usually don't get picked till April, then it's waiting and more micro plans or last minute changes till the big day!

 

Has this trip been an annual thing for you guys? If so, I may have to join you guys if I ever make it down that way...

 

Yea we have an annual trip. But not in the same spot. This year was in the same areas due to other circumstances.

The next few years planned..won't be anywhere near there.

That said I live right there so I go to most of those trails every year with the wyo guys.

 

It is time to find trails a little further from home.

 

You could come down this way

 

We have traditionally planned these trips for the end of summer because of school, doing it before the fall session begins.

A late fall or winter trip to southern Az sounds like fun tho.

 

Dunno about southern az but spring, sunmer, fall in the "tophalf" of the state isnt half bad. Like up on the rim where they did the overland expo is great during the summer and there are hundreds of not thousands of miles of trails through several different climates.

Edit: except maybe in August/September it would be pretty warm even in flag then not bad but probably high 80's

 

Yeah, I am familiar. A portion of my failed youth was spent at NAU.

Anything north of Prescott or Camp Verde or Payson or Heber or Showlow would be great. It has been a long time but I recall the Mogollon Rim and the White Mtns as being places worth exploring.

 

Nice I might go up there once I'm done with community college

 

That's what next year is for and the year after

Meanwhile, the wyo crew will continue to enjoy our own back yard on the weekends

Just read this thing beginning to end. Amazing adventure. Thanks for writing it and taking so many pictures. I've never been further west than Tennessee but after seeing this I want to make an expedition out there to see as much of it as I can. Simply amazing. The amount of stuff you guys had. I couldn't believe you just whipped out a chainsaw and had steak dinners! haha

 

It is all just part of the adventure.

Thanks man! Was a great time. Yes not our first rodeo so we carry lots of gear haha only takes one time of not having the right tool to make you pack it every time after.
