Was talking to a buddy of mine who a police officer just the other day about how easy/hard it is to fix tickets these days. He say unless you can get to someone before the end of that officers shift then it's too late. Once it enters the system it's next to impossible to get rid of it.

It's pretty much the same thing as Verizon's Edge program. You pay full price for the phone split over 24 months (30 for AT&T). You pay full price instead of the subsidiary price (usually 1/4 full price). It's good for those people who need the latest and greatest phone and can't wait for the end of their contract. And after you've paid off 75% of the phone (or wait 24 months for AT&T), you can trade it in and get almost nothing for it to put towards the next phone.

Thats what I figured its all computerized so I bet it was instant. Anyone have any tips on fighting a ticket when you were going with the flow of traffic and get picked out?

Yea I see that coming as well I just dont think a $218 ticket is justified by 75 when it is a normal speed for the area (normally go 70 and get passed by people)

I don't know how tough CT is, but I've seen people get their tickets reduced in RI and MA. If it's your first, they might cut you some slack. But then there's court cost you'll have to pay either way if you show up to appeal it.

I know that but I don't think it will total to the $218 that they want me to pay or at least I hope not.

I've only fought one ticket, and court costs was something like $35. But that was almost a decade ago.

Thats like what I am hoping for and for the ticket to be reduced to 100 or less.

Yeah that is how I read it also. Kinda sucks, I dont chase technology and I hold onto my phone as long as I can. If I buy it at the subsidized price they are saying it will cost more in the long run.

Sounds about right for the R1 :)
That's an acceptable response for White Castle. Otherwise, it's still just another fast food joint... Nothing to get excited about. I'll take Five Guys any day :hungry:
I don't know how insurance works in CT but it's not the court cost or even the cost of the ticket you should be concerned with, it's the jump in insurance for a moving violation. If you get out of that for under $300 and no jump in insurance, I'd be happy about it. You got pulled for going 20 over, the flow of traffic is irrelevant. Cop could have pulled any one of the vehicles for the same ticket. Your best bet is to appeal it, go to court, be respectful and see if you can get it reduced to a non-moving violation.

Any idea how how to make it a non-moving violation?

    ^^^^

You're at the mercy of the court and officer. Since this is your first violation, you might get lucky but at 20 over, you'd have to get really, really, really lucky to get it dropped to non-moving. It's probable that they'll at least reduce it so your insurance won't get hit too hard.

    Bah.
Looks like we're in for a real mess over the next couple of days. Supposed to start out as snow tonight into tomorrow morning, then switch to sleet and freezing rain, then rain, then back to sleet & freezing rain and then back to snow by tomorrow night. And then more rain on Wednesday. And then snow on Thursday & into Friday.
The weather guys have absolutely no idea on totals, either, because it depends on when it switches.

Any of you guys heat with oil? I solely use my pellet stove, but I have no idea when the furnace was last inspected. The bigger problem is that there is a small leak at the oil filter and I want to get that buttoned up ASAP.

I watched a few videos and did some reading, and it looks like replacing the oil filter is a pretty simple task (it seems the leak is from an old o-ring in the canister). But on the same hand, it seems like it may be better to spend the money and have a tech come and look over the system. Any input?

VZW tries to word it so it sounds better too. But the subsidized cost of $200 for a $600+ phone doesn't sound like it's costing more in the long run to me. The benefit with Edge/Next, is that you're not locking yourself into a contract for a phone, but you're adding an extra $25 to your bill every month.

I went to a Five Guys recently. Kind of reminded me of Johnny Rockets. Either way better than McDonalds or Wendy's.

I think a whole new filter canister assembly is under $20 and usually comes with the filter. A wrench and some teflon tape should be all you'll need to replace the whole thing. I swap out the filter on my boiler every year and it takes me about 10 minutes at most. Just make sure you've got something underneath it to catch any spills, because there's always some oil in the filter housing itself that dribbles out.

Worked out cheaper for me. Was paying ~$120/month for upgrades every two years, 5 GB data, 400 minutes, unlimited texting.

Now I'm at about $95 for upgrades every 18 months, 3 GB data, unlimited voice and texting. Didn't use anywhere near 5 GB, but even if I still got that much it would work out slightly cheaper. The only reason I had 5 GB is it was the only way to get tethering, but now I can get tethering on the lower data plans so I don't need it.

Plus, I discovered AT&T gives me 15% off due to where I work, so I'm at around $80/month.

Of course, AT&T used to let me upgrade every 12 months so I'm at a disadvantage from that, but I haven't had that luxury in quite a while anyway.
