Not too much time but it is very unique and always very clean. So I kind of figured that was where you were at.

Ok. I'm having 2nd thoughts now on if I want to do it or not. :(

I keep thinking of what else I could do with the $2k and I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger on spending it on a bumper.

Is there going to be a poll or something where we can actually vote or is someone counting all the posts to that thread & keeping tally?

I understand that. For me it boils down to do you personally want it and will you enjoy it? can you afford it? does it eliminate a pre-existing issue or prevent a future issue? if all of those are a yes then it seems pretty reasonable you will be happy with your purchase. Not a guarantee*

I spent a few hours in the garage the other day once the body shop received the check trying to repair as much as I could. The bumper cover still has some creases in it because it was left caved in for too long but for the most part came back. The fog light is now aimed (somewhat properly) and save for some paint that came off and a couple smaller dents/creases it's not unbearable. I was able able to pull the fender back nearly to where it was and surprisingly there is no major paint damage. I took the headlight out to get the fender pulled out and once it was pulled out I was able to drill a couple of holes in the back of the headlight housing an get it securely zip tied in place and aimed somewhat accurately. In all, it really doesn't look as awful as it did and since my lights are aimed properly I feel like I can drive it like this for months (that was the plan since a new bumper was going to take months) while I wait for a good deal on a used passenger side headlight and a used bumper cover in my color. I know the latter is going to be more difficult but it's happened before and being as I drive a popular truck I'm optimistic. I like the look of a plate bumper but the more I think about it the more I think of the cons that come with one too. The biggest of which is that $2k and what all I can do with it.

Maybe the best advice you've ever had.

I want it but I just don't know if I will get $2k worth of looks/enjoyment out of it. I can afford it but being able to afford it and wanting to afford it are two entirely different things. I've always been selective about what I spend money on and I'm not sure that this is something I want to spend the money on.

I start to thinking about the cons more than the pros and they're adding up now. There's the obvious con of the $2k price tag and then the increased fuel costs from decreased fuel economy. There's also the lost acceleration & all-around performance like handling & such from increased weight. There's also the thought that a slow fender bender like I had could have been greatly magnified with a plate bumper. Some think it will prevent damage but it actually prevents the 5mph bumpers and parts from doing their job. Rather than absorbing energy and making it an accident I felt zero issues from it could have transferred all that energy straight into the frame and me. Then I have to worry about suspension and other things it affects. It makes it harder to service the engine especially if I get that hoop.

Lastly is the look. I dig the look of the bumper itself on the truck. What I don't dig is what it looks like under the bumper and beside the bumper once you remove the wheel liners. One thing I thoroughly hated about my truck was how it looked from the front for the first year I had it. I finally got one of the TRD bumper skid thingies and it covered up the rust & nasty bits of frame/suspension/underpinnings and I know that if I add this I will see all that garbage again plus even more once the wheel liners are removed. It made the truck look 10 years older than it was. I've seen it on truck with nice suspension components and even they look unfinished IMO. Mine would look even worse with ugly suspension components and what not.

This picture emphasizes what I'm talking about:

The area behind the bumper & in front of the front tire is what I'm talking about. Not sure how much the lower part of the bumper would cover but I have a feeling a lot of that stuff that looked like poo before would be revealed again too.

I'm just having a lot of second thoughts and I feel like they're all valid concerns otherwise I would've just disregarded them and moved forward with it.
