You've probably never even noticed it, but there's a small metal trim piece (or ring, if you prefer) around the cigarette lighter. Mine has come loose and I don't see what holds it in place. Mine just flops around the lighter and I can't tell if it's defective and should be replaced, or if I just need to, somehow, re-attach the goofy thing! In any case, it looks sloppy just hanging there.

Does anybody have any experience with this little piece Im referring to?

    Thanks,
    Ed

Hopefully I've added the attachment correctly!

    Thank you!

I just pulled off my stereo panel off this morning and put it back together , wish i would of seen your post earlier . Is there any clips of any kind on the inside of the housing or anywhere around the lighter , if not I would just glue it back in .

I don't see any clips, etc., so I'm stumped. If nobody here has any experience with this little piece, I'll probably just stop by my local dealership and ask the guys in the parts department.

    :)

    I took mine apart recently,

This is how I installed mine,
I placed the metal bezel on the console.
Slide the black plastic sleeve. (this holds the bezel on the console)
Slide the lighter on the sleeve. (it clicks with clips holding it all in place)

How can I remove the power outlet on a 2005 Taco without having to pull the center console, A/C controls, radio etc.? I read I can use needle nose pliers grabbing the outer ring and slowly pull and rotate it til it comes out. Will this damage the retainer ring assembly? My lighter and power outlets are below the A/C controls panel.

No matter what power outlet or cigarette lighter. The cigarette element that lights the cigarette won't stay in any one of the 3 spots. The cigarette element just falls out. I don't smoke anyways but it's just annoying. I've tried pushing the element into the lighter and once it heated up it shot out the element onto the floorboard and almost burned a hole into the carpet. Must be for a different truck!
