No, the Colorado is a normal truck with car/crossover engine in it. One that you have to rev the shit out of to get any torque. Also, have you seen the ground clearance on the Colorado? Don't even try driving it up a sidewalk curve. You're bound to leave chunky plastic behind.
As far as the Duramax diesel option. I am betting there will be a premium of at least $4k on it for marginal improvements to fuel economy and towing. Unless you plan on keeping a Colorado for a minimum of 15 years (if they even last that long) the Diesel is just a money pit.
Odds are the new gas V6 will get substancially better mileage and will tow more than 7,000 lbs. Which is a lot. If you tow a ton, why even get a mid-sized truck?

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Why does everyone think diesels are money pits? Have you ever even owned a diesel? I have a 1997 Powerstroke and it hasn't cost me any more to own than my Tacoma other than regular maintenance, yeah oil changes cost more because it holds 15 quarts versus 5, but if I take care of it, it will take care of me. I feel more confident that the 7.3 diesel in that truck will outlast the engine of my Toyota, seen several with over a million miles on em still going. Haven't heard of a Tacoma going that far without a rebuild. Both are good trucks, but diesel engines last longer than gas. Over the road semi trucks rack up several thousand miles each year and last well over a million miles in most cases.

The problems I've seen with diesels aren't the engine it self, more so with pumps and turbos going bad.

Also I'm not sure about in the states, but diesel is about 30% more expensive than gas where I live in Canada right now. Kind of defeats the purpose unless you're towing lots.

True, but that's the only thing I use mine for, it's parked unless I need it but it is nice to have. Only work I've had to do to it was replace the glow plugs this fall and that cost me $90 for Motorcrafts and the time to do it, easy to do on an old diesel.

Old diesels are a lot different than new diesels, the emissions on the new diesels limit them big time, also add to the amount of things to go wrong. My friend bought a 2009 powerstroke and blew both the turbos in the first month of owning it, cost him $5000 and it has less than 200,000Km on it.

Colorado ground from ground to frame is 8.4" and the Tacoma is 9.3" not that drastic. The Colorado, however, is almost 1.5 feet longer than the Tacoma.

Ya but your going to hit the skirt that's hanging 3-4 inches under the frame first.

What skirt? All I saw was a skid plate. I was comparing the Z71 4x4 to the TRD 4x4, just fyi.

My dad has a 2008 power stroke and he hasn't had any major problems with it. Its people trying to be "cool and "roll coal" or do pull offs or other stupid stuff that blow turbos.

Not saying your friend was doing that but you get my point.
I know some car manufactures get turbos from certain distributors and there low grade. The turbo on my sy step moms Passat went out, and the dealer said the turbos are bad were there getting them.

I guess the z71 don't have them. I just remember seeing pictures and they had a front lower air dam.

Gotcha. I picked those 2 models to be fair as opposed to comparing the Z71 to the single cab base model or vice versa

The new Powerstrokes have dual turbos? I didn't know that, how'd he manage that one? Had to have had em spooled up out of their gourd.

They are money pits because a new Duramax or Powerstroke will cost ~$8,000 more than a regular gas engine and Diesel is ~$1.00 more per gallon, so I am just doing the math.
They make sense if you tow ALL the time or have a commercial truck.

As long as Toyota sells every Tacoma they make, don't expect much in the way of new hardware on the new model. They will just keep the Government happy, and their customers wanting.

He was driving down a gravel road when the emissions kicked in and started doing its clean cycle where it reverts the exhaust back through the turbos, something like that is how he explained it to me.
