I've noticed this too, and after seeing first hand the root of the cause. Guy at work uses his 2nd gen like a contractor. He's got a bed box with 400 lbs of odds and ends. He hauls firewood and has done most of his landscaping work at his new place using his Tacoma.

It appears excessive weight causes the box to slightly stretch or warp. Which when empty, it moves around more than a box that is barely uses. From what I can tell since the mounting points are composite, they can become oblong or stretched causing more wiggle.

Get the relentless fab tail gate reinforcement, took away all of my worries about the weak tailgate. Frame flex is normal.... and its FAR better than the chevy i previously drove that would have 1.5in of deflection between the cab and bed at full flex.

And OEM bed mat for the win!

As far as I know most frames flex. The frame on my 4Runner flexes, I had to leave a small gap on either side of the ARB when I put it on due to the flex.

I don't see any frame flexing on mine.

I've loaded countless motorcycles including larger 500 lbs bikes in my bed and have never punctured the bed or tailgate, do your ramps have hooks or spikes on it or something?

Toyota makes a rubber bed mat you can buy to help items from skidding around. I bought a bed net and use that.

Have you ever seen this video?!?!? Bed boxes bounce on all trucks. That's why there is a gap between the cab and the box.

Well, actually he bought a $32,500 truck with a bunch of over priced stuff on it and didn't look at it when he bought it. :D

A bed mat is an accessory not part of the truck.

Uni body would be that horrendous Honda thing.

Even though the composite bed is mentioned as a selling point in every piece of literature/website/magazine review I've ever seen for the gen2.

I haven't had the first issue with mine.

Yeah, kinda hard to not notice it isn't it? Hell, I told the salesman to stfu cause I knew more than he did about this truck.

Added a horse stall mat from the local tractor supply ~$25 with a coupon from the weekly sale paper and no issues with mine either.
