Night and Day! UCA's and Toku's Alignment specs are the shizznat!!

So with my Billies set at 2.5 and running a set of 285 BFG Mud Terrains I had some caster issues...In order to get 1.5 caster on each side I had to have my camber set kinda dorky....It was cool but after reading Toku describing how good it can really be?

I pulled the trigger on a set of LR UCA's and using Toku's 2.4 Caster and 0.0 Camber specs had my local Brakes Plus store hook it up...$152.00 to install the UCA's and align the truck. That was like half of what everyone else wanted so I said giddy up!

They had it all day....It took the tech hours to get the UCA's on and aligned...I started getting the feeling they felt they had misqouted me on the deal...

They got it done. They charged me $152.00. I paid with a smile.

Total investment to make truck drive as it should? $420.00 LR UCA's shipped. $152.00 Installed and aligned. $572.00 so not cheap but worth every stinking penny!

Soon as I pulled off the lot it wasnt just better..It was fvcking astounding!!

The little wobble that I had thought was just what mud tires do? Gone.

The kinda slow steering feel that I associated with having a slight lift and bigger tires? GONE!!

The truck drives....Dare I say better than the day I pulled it off the lot. Its that dramatic. Its Night and Day!!!

If you have 2.5"-3.0" worth of lift and think your truck is driving good on stock UCA's? You just dont know how good it can be.

I used Toku's alignment specs....I hafta take it back tomorrow for a minute camber adjustment as I want them both at the identicle 0.0....

Heres what they ended up with after a long day on the rack. It drives so dammned good. I swear it feels better than stock. I'm gonna have them do each side of toe at .04 and get the caster on both sides to -.01

 

that is good news man. i got a question. what are the LR UCA? why did you go with those instead of the Total Choas UCA?

 

Light Racing UCA's. My guess would be that they are a bit cheaper.

But good to hear Chaz! I'm looking at these UCA's also.

 

LR = Light Racing, UCA= Upper control arm.

When you lift our trucks you the stock UCA will not let you align the truck properly. This results in settings that cause wandering issue and or tire wear issues due to funky camber settings.

To get our trucks aligned properly after a lift they must have a UCA which has design or different as such to allow for the new suspension angle.

After doing lots of reading I came to the conclusion that I didnt want to listen to a sqeuky uniball in my truck. I wanted something that performed and mimicked the OEM ball joint. It wasnt so much the money as it was the potential of having a squeky front end on my new 09' 30K Truck!

If I wheeled the truck hard or something? I would have bought the TC unit. I dont...So I didnt.

 

Its nothing short of amazing how much better a truck with 0 Camber and 2.4 caster drives compared to a truck with fudged up camber and 1.3 caster...Its truly night and day.

I'll take a flaming for saying this but....

There isnt a 2005+ Tacoma built that can drive right lifted 2.5"+ inches on the stock UCA's.Its mechanically impossible....It can be kinda "OK"...It can marginally "Acceptable". But it cannot truly be "Right" as the original engineering scope of the front suspension is intended to function. Worse yet even when doing a 285 tire.

If the folks who think there truck is "Right" lifted 3" on the stock UCA's they just dont know what "Right" truly is!!!

You're right. I think people like to think they can just get away without them, but when their suspension is worn out in the next 50k miles, we'll see who's getting away.

I agree 100%. I added a 3" lift and billies and my truck was wobbling like I needed a front end alignment even thought I had already done it after I got the lift on it. Add some UCA's and WOW!!! smooth and effortless now.

 

Good to hear guys! I just bought some TC UCA's and Im getting them put on tomorrow morning. Cant wait!

 

Could you possibly take a picture of your UCA's so I can see what the camber slider is set at? I was thinking I would have to use the caster adjust on the UCAs to fix it, but I think if I set the sliding camber adjust to the same thing yours is they can get it right.
