How the fuck is lowering wages going to help anything

People already can't afford to feed themselves. Most of the workers at wal mart are on good stamps while the company makes record profits but let's keep subsidizing Walmart

OK there is unsafe conditions on a union job you know it the rest know it the union says"this need to be fixed" and deals with the problem they go to court hire lawyers get the problem fixed. So your fellow workers and your self get safer working conditions this all came about because the union had money to do it. Now the question is why should you not have to pay into the same fund your fellow workers do to get the same benefits? Right to work is nothing more than a way to dissolve the unions.

They are not going broke. German auto workers make twice the money the US workers do and VW and MB are still making record profits.

My sincerest apologies to OZ-T. I am now fully aware that you know anything and everything about EVERYTHING.What is also amazing is that you KNOW that my company is "slowly going broke" Yet you don't even know the name of the company.

Im a union Carpenter, and a superintendent for a General contractor in Philadelphia. The way i see it, if there was no system in place to keep the companys from having too much control, why would they bother to provide safe working conditions and fair pay? Because their nice people? I agree the unions are corrupt, but, there is corruption everywhere that money and power are involved. My opinion, Unions are a necessary evil and if we did away with them everyone's pay would start to go down.

What good is the law if no one enforces it until you're hurt? How often does OSHA really come out and check a job? The nice thing about the unions is that any member can contact a 3rd party (their union hall) if they are concerned about the safety of a job.

I wont even pretend to be on your level as a carpenter, shit, i cant even remember the last time i had woodwork on a job.

True, the government is pretty dependable. Every carpenter on a union job in philadelphia has at least OSHA 10, how does that compare to a none union job?

Not sure how it works there but non union workers can report any unsafe working condition to our Worker's Compensation Board and they will most certainly investigate

I was being a bit facetious in my statement. I will reiterate however, believing that the country would be better off without labour unions is simply unwise.

Agreed. Many studies have been done on it. From 1973 to 2007, inequality in wages spiked 40%( It's worse now). In that time union membership in private sector fell from 34% to 8%. Coincidence? I don't think so. Wages have been stagnant for years, but inflation never stops. That's why we have terms like 'working poor' now.

Here's the thing. You sound like you work for a company that you respect and they respet you and treat you well. Thats great and its too bad that all companies dont follow that model. People lucky enough to be in those enviroments or work for themselves don't need a union.

Not everyone has that though. There aren't enough companies that truly follow an 'ethical' treatment of their employees.

If there was a true balance between all employers and employees, I would agree that there would be no need for a union. In balance I mean both parties truly understand neither exists without the other and they should be treated as such.

As you stated earlier, recession. Certain parts of the country are not in a place to find new jobs. My area is an example for trade jobs. Work is slow and it's not as easy as quitting and finding something new.
