Hi all. I wanted to see if anyone could share their expertise and opinion on why my 2013 double cab off road is very noticeably lacking power compared to my dad's 07 double cab sport (not a new occurrence, both always have been different). Both trucks have automatic trans. His has 41000 miles, mine 7000 miles. We both have exact same brand, model and diameter tire (outer/overall dimension). I say this based on my butt dyno, but it's really obvious. His revs and gets out of the hole quicker, pulls harder after it shifts, and I think even gets a little better mileage. I was real careful during break in, following Toyota recommendations. I'm not super complaining, because I am able to pull the loads I need to when I go camping (within spec limits), but I'd have peace of mind if someone knows a good reason I'm not aware of. I hope I didn't get a lemon of an engine!

Do you know anyone else with a newer tacoma to compare to. I wouldn't think there would be a real noticeable difference between the years. They've slightly changed things over the years for fuel economy and emmisions, but nothing major.

No I don't have anyone else to compare. Maybe I'll go to the dealer and ask to test one there.

You sure TRAC isn't kicking in and cutting engine power ?

I have noticed a similar occurrence with my friends 05 vs my 13. She even had one size larger diameter tires. I ended up finding out it wasn't any faster (well now I have the supercharger so its a wash), the real key difference was the throttle mapping. It was way quicker to jump up and go. But if you did zero to sixty tests they were the same. It just gives you the illusion that the 13 is slower.

At least this is what I have discovered.

Thanks... I really wondered if it was something like throttle mapping. That makes sense.
So I went to the dealer today and simply asked if I could drive one of the 2015's, same model, etc. It felt even slower to respond. I feel a lot better now. In fact just with that comparison, mine felt a lot stronger on the way home. It's interesting the perspective that a person can take/create. Thanks all... Keep the info coming if you have other knowledge/confirmation. I appreciate it!
