Took mine in early summer to show a crack in frame brace and a hole in brace under the bed before I applied $100 worth of POR-15. Service rep kept my number and said as soon as the 'recall' came to MD (IF it did) he would call me. He did a few weeks ago and the frame is on order. Here's pics. They said they would replace frame, brake and fuel lines, lower control arms and probably rear springs. Also said it would be a couple months to get the frame but at 9 years on my 06 and 138000 miles I'll take the new frame. I've never seen POR-15 fail....even after prepping, scraping and grinding its already started to flake off because the metal under it is flaking bad. I may add engine and tranny mounts if they are suspect.

I notice some didn't get the tow hold sprayed, mine did luckily. I have to say, the guys did a really good job with the spray on my truck. They were thorough, and look to have done the best possible.

I didn't pay for leaf springs. They replaced them with the frame. I got a letter about springs after they were already replaced so I'm not worrying about them.

    I dont get this.
    My frame is on order.
When it comes in the dealer tech told me they will replace frame & frame mount bolts only.
    What gives?

Im in Northern Virginia and took my truck yesterday to get frame inspected. Mine failed. Over the summer I had just put on Toytec Ultimate lift and new tires. The dealer said they will still do the frame recall but it is better for me to put it back to stock. If I dont I run the risk of having a open ticket for them to charge me labor hours for reassembly. This is the dumbest shit ever, all the parts that they take off go on the same way, also they are new and not rusty. Anyone else have a lifted Taco and had a similar issue? Oh and mines a 05 DC. So frame is ordered, they said 2-3 months for it to come in and 2-3 days for the install work.

    Thanks

Well I have been waiting since Oct, I think the 11th, for a frame. Called dealer and they said my frame should be there at dealer Jan 7th 2015. Thank goodness gas prices are down because this Ford likes to drink! Now watch, dealer will call Monday and say it's done!

They sprayed the heck out of mine. I just wish the compound was something other than a super thick wax like substance.

I hope they replace my leafs. As you can see in this pic, mine are flat as a pancake. And this is with absolutely nothing in the bed.

thanks for the pictures. yeah i've heard many people complaining of the thick type of coating they use. looks pretty sloppy honestly, but if it does the trick, i guess it works.

Yeah, there is no extended warranty when they spray the frame. If it rots out from the inside in the next couple years you are on your own. Wait as long as possible before you take it in for the inspection. The boxed, and especially sandwiched, sections of the frame rust from the inside out. Unless they are treated before their first winter on the road they will rust from the inside out for the rest of the vehicles life. The severity of the rusting will depend on the amount of time harmful elements are allowed to get into the danger areas and the actions taken to prevent damage. The best treatment would be something that creeps into voids like an oil that is replied repeatedly. Used motor oil can be acidic in nature and eat at components on the truck. Hydraulic oil, used or unused, isn't acidic and can be a good option.

I am not an expert. This information has been provided to me from others that are experienced. If anyone has experience that contradicts or prove what I have stated that would be appreciated.

Well, I took the truck in a couple of days ago and it "passed" the inspection so they sprayed it. Here are a couple of pics. It stinks to high heaven and they recommended I not pull it into the garage for a week or two due to the smell and that it will probably drip. Here is the information that was hanging from my rear view mirror:
'"External Surface Corrosion-Resistant Compound: The temperature of the frame will affect the drying time. Please do not touch the external surfaces of the frame as the surfaces may remain tacky to the touch for a period of time. Please do not wash your vehicle's under carriage for approximately 72 hours after pickup."
    and
"Internal Surface Corrosion-Resistant Compound: The internal surface compound consists of mainly paraffin wax. You may notice a small amount of whitish-colored droplets from the internal application. If dripping occurs....then some information on how to clean it up.

So...I wondered how they would deal with internal corrosion. It seems they just seal it in wax to hopefully stop it from progressing. I'm doubtful this will work. So I'll hang on to the truck for another year or two and hopefully get some trade in value for it.

Just had my 07 frame redone that I recently bought from a dealer here in the Black Hills that came from Salt-a-chussettes. lololol.
I found out about the recall and called Toyota Corporate and my dealer and I went as high as we could to Toyota and were blown off to try to get them address the rust issue. It was not eaten through and was mostly surface rust but it was pretty thick.
Toyota Corporate said no recalls in my state of South Dakota even though it had just came from Mass. Imagine that?

Anyway, dealer knew a body shop guy who agreed to take off bumper and box and lift the cab as high as he could on both sides, one at a time and then when he did that he sand blasted it, then sprayed it down, then recoated the heck out of it with POR 15.
    It looks great!!
    Cost was $1500.
Dealer I bought the pickup from split it with me.
I think that was a great deal!!

Oh they sprayed far more than that. I also paid less than wholesale for my truck used so this is all icing on the cake really.

Exactly.....After about 1-2 years after the 3rd Gen comes out, I'll be ready to buy another one. I can deal with their sloppy frame coating mess for another 3-4 years. My truck will be 11 years old by then. Someone else can deal with it.

I have a favorite dealership 30 miles away (where I bought my truck). I've sent them a facebook message and they got back to me within hours - and that's why I like them. They're frigin 'in-tune' with the customers. My local dealership sucks and I hate going to them....I'm gonna keep 'watching' the leaf spring fix and plan to take the truck to them and get both done (or at least get the ball rolling) when the leaf spring thing is ready.

Thanks for the photos!! I think mine will end up with the coating. SUCKS that the stuff drips and stinks......
