I was gawking at the rear bumper and got to thinking. I love high clearance bumpers but don't really like swing aways since you cant keep the tailgate down when you need to (unless you remove it)... Has anyone tried a swing down (like a tailgate)?

Swing down? Might be pretty heavy depending on the wheel and tire setup and the frame. Could slam down and brake the mounting points or someone not strong enough to lift it back up. Would be a cool concept though and would like to see it.

Ya, that's understandable. I use my truck on a daily basis so I would like to be able to use all its features (including a tailgate). Especially with a short bed I have my tailgate down a lot for over sized cargo.

I play on getting a HC rear bumper but not sure what I could do for a spare tire carrier. right now I am just holding it on a basket above the cab. It's fine but there is obviously drag and heavy getting it down. The canopy door also causes issues with it being mounted on a swing out (or down for that matter). Every time I would want to get into it, I would have to swing.

    It's a conundrum...

Thanks! Wasn't sure at first since I had so much invested into the grill and lights but now I'm glad I did.
