Damn near. He wants the ipt mod for faster shift times for sure then maybe he will get the smaller pully. But he is tossing around the idea of getting the URD stage three kit...and maybe the sleeve bore kit..

Mine doesn't, but the 2nd gen 5 spd auto has similar gear ratios to the 1st gen 5spd manual. Pair that with my 4.88 diff gears and it slows down real quick when you let off the throttle.

The weird thing I find with all of these arguments is it seems like everyone forgets that you can manually downshift autos. When I do my high speed stuff I typically throw the shifter in 2nd and leave it there. I can do about 50 mph in 2nd gear and it's pretty easy to keep my rpm in the powerband in 2nd. If I get slow enough to need 1st it will just downshift itself as needed and if I get going fast enough to need 3rd I just reach down and bump it up a gear and then bump it back down to 2nd when I slow back down.

So far, the only complaint I have found with my auto, is when I am at WOT trying to climb a dune in 2nd gear and start losing speed, it's waits a bit too long to shift to 1st gear. I would prefer it to drop into 1st gear at like 5K rpm so that I still have some power, but it waits and drops in around 3K and I've usually lost too much momentum by then. I'm guessing it does this to protect the trans though.

If I had a manual though I would probably get too antsy though and downshift too soon and over rev the motor... so it is kind of a trade off I suppose...

You have been off pavement with igor but I said wheeling and you know I was referring to situations where 4lo and articulation and steep inclines are involved.

It is ok to admit you lack the true experience to compare a manual tacoma to a auto tacoma. Its Ok.

I have to agree with Brady. Slowing down with the 4.88s is not the same as with stock gearing. Engine braking is way more effective. I was impressed with how much speed control I had with just the throttle when trying to run away from Frank (it was easy actually ) when we were exploring the trail that leads to Lake Abundance. 2nd gear give a very wide power band.

I notice I engine break alot more in the 4runner. The 4.88s do change the game up and Brady is right in what he is saying. Sometimes you really wish it would kick down a gear and it just doesn't want to.

Not with the TW guys very much. They're all westsiders and Im stuck over here in the burg :/ go wheelin all the time with my best friend (he's got a jeep)

 

I almost joined you guys when you did the Gallagher Lake a couple of months ago but something came up so I had to drop out.

Once the snow melts, I want to explore From Ellensburg to Cashmere. I know there is a lot of stuff back up that way but I've never been. Ben and I explored north of Cashmere and up the Entiat drainage and over to lake chelan. It was right before the fires last summer.

And I have driven yours offroad my manual and gears are far superior if you want to play that game

Where do you wheel in the burg? Always want to know a good place to have some fun in the dirt. I go through that area all the time on my way to and from Spokompton. Also I totally understand the best friend having a Jeep deal, sometimes we just have to go wheeling with him as my spotter when his Jeep is on the fritz.

 

Shoot!! Yeah there is some awesome stuff inbetween there. Manastash and funny rocks are awesome as well!

Mostly up by Liberty and manastash. There's a few trails up reecer creek as well. Hahaha yeah the jeep makes TW meets hard. People don't want him there. Wish we could do the Taco Takeover meet together :/
