I have a 2015 DCSB Sport and the headlights suck. I had a 2006 Taco that had great factory headlights. The new truck has a bad cutoff line on low beam and if you don't run the fogs you can't see crap right in front of the truck. They are not great on high beans either. I don't want to get projector lights, I like them but I'm afraid of what they will look like in a few years for all that money. Has anyone put an aftermarket bulb in that don't have that line or is it caused by the bucket? What about LED, does it get rid of the line?

I took out my '06 OEM light bulbs right away and replaced them with GE Nighthawk, Platinum bulbs.... they cost about $70.00 here in the over-priced north, but are worth every cent.... I live in the boonies and use high beams at night all the time... I also run the fogs (with the on-all-the-time mod).

These bulbs are so bright that when I come to a yellow reflective caution sign that is at 90 deg. to me, I have to dim the highs to be able to see.... the reflection is unbelievable...

Check these out man... Ive had only 1 burn out in 8 years...

Too damn many mooses and deer around here.... they will kill you..!!

The factory does a pretty bad job adjusting the lights I would try that first mine lit up second floor windows. The cut off is normal now that the US decided the Europeans had the right ideal all along. You can up grade the bulbs they are standard H4's.

The OP is right - those lights are beyond terrible.

    Hell, my 1999 Tacoma, with hazed, UV-damaged composite lenses...are a million-percent better.

I don't really see even the cutoff beam. Are these different from those in other markets? For that matter, is the Tacoma even SOLD in other markets? I see they build it in their new Texas plant. Are those lights deliberately substandard?

My 14 was the same way. I had to go back to the dealer and they readjusted them. They were set too low from the factory. I also added led bulbs in the fog lights. That gave me better lighting close up.

I guess I don't understand what a retro setup is. Is it where you use the projector lights? How pricey is it?

Sounds like he took headlights from an 06 and put them in his new truck.

    Are they the same size/shape?

Visit theretrofitsource.com and look at the complete setups. There is a group buy discount if you look for it on here. Yes, it is a few hundred dollars but the install is easy if you take your time. Projector lights are the way to go, I think. That is why all luxury brands come with them. Reviews all say the H1 Mini is better than the D2S. The FXR is apparently great but not recommended for a first time retrofitter.
This is my truck with H1 Minis next to another 2012, 2013 or 2014 tacoma with factory halogens

Mine you don't notice to bad in the city, but I farm and out on country roads they are horrible. That line is very noticeable then. I think I will take it to the dealer and get them to check adjustment like was recommended. Then try a different bulb. No one has said anything about LED ones? Should I stay away from them?

If you have flat ground and a nice big wall you can do it yourself if you wanted.

There are threads here on "lifetime leds" led bulbs.

I'd say go in here to get the big info on this stuff:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/324467-lifetime-led-install-review-progress.html

I'm the same way, best headlights I have ever had. Drove a 04 1st gen and 3rd gen 4runner and those pale in comparison, and other headlights of vehicles I've driven suck too. The new 5th gen 4Runners have some good lighting but it seems adjusted a little high from factory, or at least it seemed that way.

My 2011 lights are better than the "E" spec rally lights I put in my 97. The cut off takes a bit of getting used to but if they are too low it has a big effect on the high beams. The cut off allows great high beams with out blinding on coming traffic on low. If you feel you need more light rallylights.com has high wattage H4's that are direct replacements.

^^ +1 for Tim's comment above. I've had no issues with mine, around town or on "country" roads. Yeah, a little different than I'm used to, but overall better.

The cut off line is the reflector not the bulb nothing will change that. Try these they are off road only but it's your truck.http://www.rallylights.com/h-412xo-h4-9003-hb2-12v-osram-hyper-each.html

7000 Kelvin is way too blue for proper light output...optimal temp would be around 4300K.

I get people flashing their brights at me all the time thinking my high beams are on, the headlights in my 14' are pretty dialed in. To those that think these headlights suck you never experienced driving a vehicle made before the 2000's at night, or maybe you did but you riced out the headlights on it.
