Problem after BHLM

Ok so I did the BHLM yesterday and now it seems as if my lights are pointing higher than they should be. When I went to remove the bulbs before baking the housing, I snapped a small plastic piece off of where the little metal hook thing was clipped to. (First thumbnail). You can see where the piece of plastic broke off (2nd thumbnail just under the square hole just above where the bulb goes in). Now I can't find the plastic piece that snapped off. Anyone run into this or got a quick fix it? I did this to both headlamps :

 

I would but I can't find the small piece that snapped off of one of the lamps. I think I still have one piece that broke off...

 

the reason the light is pointing higher is because the bulb is turned the wrong way...i did it my self...just rotate it one space and try it...if it is still wrong rotate it one more space and it should be the perfect height!...as far as the plastic piece...jb weld it!

Cool thanks. I'll try to take care of it this weekend sometime. It took me a long time to get the housing apart. hopefully the next time it'll go quicker.

 

yeah...the light bulb is a quick fix i did it in my driveway at midnight...just turned it once and bam..perfect height...the plastic piece...not so much

 

You don't need to take it back apart to rotate the bulb.

 

lol that's right! Man I would've taken the whole damn thing apart just to rotate the damn thing lol. thanks man!!

 

Dude if you can't find that lil piece of plastic you might be doomed and have to buy a new headlight...you can get one for like 50 bucks on ebay

 

Yeah no problem, just did the bhlm today so I had it on my mind.

 

Your pretty much screwed gonna have to buy new lights. Not really sure why you even took that off anyway. I don't think glue is gonna hold because that clip does have some tension when the bulbs in place.

 

you're screwed on that plastic piece that broke. I did the same thing, took it to the dealer and they warranted it. However I was just trying to change a bulb. It seems like a cheap set up as it broke off very easily w/o me really fumbling things too much. I pulled back the rubber cover, released the retaining spring and "ping" the plastic flew off and the spring w/ into the engine bay.

like 700 bucks from the dealer if you go out of pocket. Again, they covered it/warranty but now i'm scared as hell to even mess w/ the headlight. I've changed many bulbs but i don't want to go near this now.

$700? Screw that lol. The rubber seems to hold it pretty steady without the retaining spring. I'll just try rotating it and adjusting without it somehow, and if worse comes to worse, it'll give me an excuse to buy some halos I guess.

 

I had that little piece break off mine too. I just took some clear silicon and glued the light into the slots and its good as new. The silicon is pretty easy to remove when its time to take the bulbs out.

 

Good idea. Right now I just have the lights seated in the slots and they seem to hold up pretty steady with the rubber housing. I fooled around with it tonight and I think I got them right. I may take them out and put some silicon on it if I need to readjust them again though.

 

silicone is a good call for a rigging but i didn't want to go that route as i only have 27k on the truck. I took it in and they didn't give me a problem and had the assembly on hand. Yeah 700 if you had to pay them however they warranted it for me, thankfully.

Seems like alot of people are having trouble w/ these things breaking. I don't muscle shit, it took very little to get this thing to break.

Is there some sort of trick to changing out the bulb so that plastic holder piece doesn't crack off? A bulb is a no brainer yet i hear of many people having the same issue?

I'd hate to have to be "that guy" that has to take his truck to a dealer to have a fckn head light bulb changed, lol.


Oh and strangebrew, the rubber does a good job of keeping it where it needs to be but when you're driving i suspect the bulb is going to jiggle like a mther and cause your beam to go all over and probably break the filament as well.
