Anyone seen advertisement for ALASKA OFFROAD WARRIORS?

Exactly what I was saying the other day.

 

I am stoked to see an FJ55 kicking ass though.

Here is my other rig, a 1972 FJ55 I have put much love into.

 

Good point on the speed limit. As far as stopping everyone for a breakage, I guess it depends on how dangerous a position of the broken vehicle is in and even then they'd probably only stop the field behind the busted car.

Meh, wasn't really trying to debate the format though. Just seemed like a modified rally format to me...but then it always seemed like a rally format to me with everyone meeting up at the same place everyday and starting in the morning at the same time (or in the order they arrived the night before).

 

i just watched the 2nd episode and enjoyed it more than the 1st. there was less bs and more camaraderie.

 

Come to think of it, another good indicator that they aren't running this all in one continuous shot is the suspicious lack of fuel cans. The Super Heep on it's own probably sucks down a minimum of two Jerry cans a day.

 

Interesting show so far but wish they got more technical.

That is my point as well. The show's editing actually makes thinks look much worse or like they are tearing it up more than they are but the perception is really bad. The History Channel's comments are full of yahoos stating they are going up there to do the same thing they THINK they see on TV.

I would like it more if they just stuck more to the technical stuff myself.

I wish it was more technical but then I'm sure the show would get the boot, so I'm atleast glad there's an offroad show available right now

 

I really doubt they would have made it a main stream show without the "racing" aspect. Most people just wouldn't be interested who watch the history channel.


I still enjoy watching it though.


It would be really cool if they ended up at interesting historical sites like old mining camps, old crashed planes or something.

 

I know that Top Gear (America) has already done these things on their show.
They have a "race" theme in all of the episodes but get technical about the vehicles, terrain and places they go.

On this "off road themed" show they need to show more of the rigs conquering the obstacles and terrain then the "in cab" crack monkey views throughout the entire show. Just my .02 .

 

I wish top gear was on more. They show like 4 episodes then there done with the season.

 

This is hands down one of the worst shows I have ever seen. I'd rather watch Todd Hoffman's ignorant lazy fat ass jacked up on coke telling everyone how to mine while praying then than this train wreck ever again.

 

I saw TGA's version of this. Now that was lame. If they were doing it TGA style, the field would already be down to the 2nd Gen 'Runner and the FJ50. They would have abandoned the 1st Gen 'Runner when it overheated, the Rover twice over when it bent the steering link in the first episode and when it spit out the driveshaft in the second, and finally, the Super Heep when it wouldn't start for day four.

Quit beating around the bush and tell us how you really feel.

 

I actually like it. I watched the two episodes on demand earlier, and thought it was decent. If you look at it like light entertainment and not some serious portrayal of true off road icons, it's ok. Certainly a better choice than most other shit on TV.

And I don't care how ratty they are, or how hillbilly the drivers are, I love watching the 4Runners and that FJ.

And actually, I like the one goatee'd guy who is the navigator in the 22RE Runner. He reminds me of one of my neighbors, this weirdly free spirited guy who is all about communicating his feelings, but who is actually a pretty cool dude and would do anything for you. Red Mullet reminds me of every big hearted hillbilly I've ever met or worked with, a loud laugh, borderline obnoxious but knows when to shut it down, all about the fun aspect of life; he's cool.

However you slice it, these guys are doing something most of us will not / can not, so more power to them.

I can't stand TGA.

Most of the episodes I have seen were blatant rip offs of the British version just less funny. The episode with the semi trucks was the worst. Literally the exact same format as the British one including smashing peoples shit. At least be a little creative

 

I've watched all the episodes so far, the team in last place with the girl driver irritate me. "Lets keep it below 10mph the entire time and hope everyone else breaks their ride and we don't break ours." The brothers with 4 banger 4 runner seem like they are strung out most of the time.

 

Did I mishear or did the FJ dude just say it will cost $3,000 to replace a 37 inch tire? If so
