Having southern roots, I can say this.

Pfft. I have northern roots (I hail from the Mitten state originally) and I laugh when just about anyone else talks about cold besides Montanans, Dakotans, or Alaskans.

Randy (hunting/fishing partner) drew a nuisance Moose cow tag for next week ... we'll be hunting the 2 mile either side highway corridor next Mon-Sun.

No. Been holding out for axis. They rushed the feeder Sunday evening with a nice big buck that almost jumped and something spooked everything. They didn't come back.
I can fill the freezer with wtl real fast before season ends but trying for axis.

 

Good deal. Whats the split? 200lbs each?

Are axis preferred for their hide and antlers? Or is the meat better too?

 

Probably work out to 150 to 200 lbs each. Randy and his wife fly out Monday 22 Dec to spend Christmas with kids/grandkids in PA. Hopefully we can get one down by Wed, then let it age 3 days, and take it Indian Valley Meats and have them make Old Fashioned Hot Dogs and Polska Kelbosa sausage. That's normally what we do with Caribou, and since we struck out on bou... We'll steak all the backstraps, of course.

EDIT: Hope I'm not putting the cart before the horse ... gotta get one down first. ... Finding a cow isn't usually too difficult. I hope ...
