Why do I get the feeling reading this that several people are confusing this recall with the previous TSB which added a 4th leaf for those who wanted it for hauling regular loads?

That's it in a nutshell. Got my "interim" letter yesterday telling me I'm getting another letter. Thanks Mr. Toyoda.

Got my interim letter yesterday. So what happens if they ever issue a fix? Do they have to pay for it?

Is this sarcasm or do you have verifiable info? Nothing has been updated on safercar.gov.

I saw a picture of where these things were breaking - right at the Ubolts at the pad.

If they put retainer clips on...they'd have to drill & tap a hole into the overload leaf to hold the clip on... and the clip would have to be big enough to cover all the leafs in the stack. ?? I don't think there's anywhere else they could put a clip that would do the job. But then again.... There's probably a room full of Toyota engineers scratching their heads trying to find a solution. This outta be good.....

So, who manufactured the leaf springs? They should go after the manufacturer for reimbursement - similar to the frame issues. If this wasn't a Toyota problem, I'd hope they wouldn't be seeking a bandaid fix.

The 2012+ have an extra retainer clip , which is why they're not part of this recall no ?

So do you think Toyota will figure out a way to retro fit a reasonably inexpensive clip , or have the Oprah moment and shell out new leaf packs with everyone that owns a 2005-2011 Tacoma ?

My money would be on option #1

Hey OZ, do you think they will pay for dakars and RR shocks? I know that every second post asks this, and you seem to reply a definite "NO" to it, but I'm pretty damn special. What do ya think?

I mean, .... Toyota retaining clips are probably the same price as dakars alone.

2011 DCLB 4x4 here.. and I got the letter too. I haven't dug into it far enough yet to MAKE SURE that I am in it. I am actually waiting on parts right now to upgrade my suspension. I am now considering waiting to see what the Toyota fix will be before I swap parts.

I went looking for my receipt for the 2011 broken leaf spring replacement the dealer did on my '05 Tacoma and came up empty. I called the dealer, asked for a copy, and was provided a number to call for reimbursement processing on the $713 driver side leaf spring set that was replaced.

While on the phone, the service desk told me this particular dealership is doing "good will" replacements of existing leaf springs on the '05-'11 Tacomas with parts they have in stock or available to them now. The recall will install 4 leaf spring packages on the rear.

This is the same dealer that ordered a frame for me before the recall, got it into the shop within 3 weeks back last spring, 1.5 days later I had a new frame with all the goodies...no charge and rental provided.

Not saying this is the final word, but this is a dealer that I have a love/hate relationship, and they seem to be on the ball. I was told that the 4 leaf replacement with clips that they did on my truck last spring with the frame replacement is THE fix under the recall and mines all done.

Hope for the best for everyone.

    Jeff
