Are you doing a SAC or going to manual hubs?

I've never seen a Tacoma at my local pick n pull, 95.5-00 is what I need right?

Neither I just want a triple stick setup when I add the "tacobox"

    Edit.

Correct me if I am wrong, I can't put a twin stick setup on my stock transfer case because my 4wd is engaged by a button and not at the case itself like a J shift. I can only select hi or lo once in 4wd.

I thought all 1st gens had the J-shift manual shift case? I don't know anything about twin sticking a 1st gen case though; It will just depend on if it has a single shift rail or not.

I do know that your IFS front end uses an Automatic Disconnecting Differential (ADD). All 2nd gens and the later 1st gens use an electronic ADD. Early 1st gens use a vacuum ADD. The ADD is an automatic version of manual hubs. If you swap cases without swapping in the vacuum actuated front diff also, you will lose the ability to engage the front ADD (and basically lose 4wd). Unless you wire a switch in cab to engage the ADD or just leave it engaged all the time.

    Simple example of front ADD:

both vacuum and electronic ADD is commanded on by getting a signal from a switch on the Tcase so no worries there.

So the signal from the Tcase is the same?

I guess I don't see the reason why he wants to swap cases then...

I just paid attention to what he is trying to do. yeah my spare case is out of a 2000 taco it's J shift just like he is asking and it's exactly the same case that's in my 03. I thought that he had an electronic t case like in the runners for some reason.

I guess that could be my confusion. Like I said above I thought all 1st gens had manual shift cases.

Just pulled this pic from his build thread so :notsure:

I think most make the switch for the sake reliability. IIRC, the solenoids are known to fail. But you can find J-shift tcases in 4runners and pre-tacos too. I'm just not sure how far back they started showing up.

    I have a spare J-shift too haha. I pulled it from an early '90s 4runner for $75.

The button for the 4lo is on the other side of the shifter.

Wow, that seems fucking retarded... If you are going to go that far why not just make the whole thing electronic like the 2nd gens...

The button is not for 4lo it's for the ADD it engages 4wd, the case is in hi while driving around all I have to do is press the button and I'm in 4hi on the fly.

I want to do this so I can have this setup
    http://www.radesignsproducts.com/Triple_Sticks.html

As it sits That won't work with my tcase because it's not a j shift right, there is no 2wd selection on my case so it defeats the purpose of twin sticks right?

If you tell me I can convert the tcase I am currently running to twin sticks and I'll be able to use that setup when I add the box from inchworm than I'll run what I have and I won't need the j shift.

That's probably what they thought too and why they changed it.

I would love to see inside the case I bet it's the same case just missing a few internals. My spare case is just incase I break mine and I bet we could just swap and I could use your case to rebuild mine if it ever broke. That is till I get a Atlas 4 in there.
