I'd rather take 270-280 hp at 4400 RPM than 305 hp at 6500 RPM...This 3.5L 2GR-FSE is a very smooth engine...NO PINGS on 87 octane.... I have used this in my previous Lexus RX350....This engine in the Lexus does NOT have high number of Torque (~248-252 ft/lb of torque) so I am excited to see what they can tweak to make it work in the truck application (where Torque is usually HIGHER than HP)

Well, since the 2015 Tundra dropped the dual-VVTi 4.0 as the base motor (going with only the 4.6l and 5.7l V8's for the entire lineup), maybe the 3G Tacoma would finally get the dual VVTi 4.0.

I don't see the problem with dropping the 4.6l V8 into the next gen as an option, but I don't make the rules. And there's some kind of weird "footprint" formula with the 2017+ CAFE standards that may limit what motor Toyota puts into the Tacoma for its footprint.

Toyota will probably add a new engine to the Tundra lineup, so maybe they will condescend to the Tacoma folks and grudgingly give them the 4.6l BEFORE they drop it from the Tundra lineup. Out of character for Toyota, but one never knows.

Seems like that ecoboost V6 is a pretty good motor. Ford just added a 2.7l I4 turbo for the F150 that puts out something like 325hp/380 torque.

I have no idea if the turbo has a bad failure rate, but it's not as if it's new technology. I'm all for getting max power out of small displacement motors.

    You're close. 2.7L v6 twin turbo, 325HP/375TQ.
Interested to see how reliable it proves, seems they were certainly doing their best to make it reliable with that alloy block material being used from the 6.7L Powerstroke

That's the exact type of engine I'd love to see in a Taco. Turbo lag is basically a thing of the past, and they make unbelievable low end torque.

For the heck of it I just measured the engine bay on the 2005 Tundra. From firewall to the inside of the radiator is 33 inches. Width between the wheelwells is apx 39 inches.

Now, if Toyota could get a 4.7l V8 into that area, why can't they get a 4.6l V8 into the Tacoma's engine bay? I bet the current Tacoma's engine bay is about the same dimensions.

All I'm hoping for is heated leather seats with the same bolt pattern as 2014. Then I'll just go find some :)
Excited for the release, but I'm holding onto my 14 for a long while.

Same here. If it's everything I dreamed of, I'll trade in my '14 for a '17 or '18.

They squeezed a 4.7 in the 4-runner one generation back so they could fit it in the Taco if they wanted to. Those runners had some minor heat issues but they ran like a stripped assed ape....way fun to drive.

If it's everything it should be in terms of quieter cabin, hp/torque/mpg boost, overall refinement like locking glovebox/tailgate, A/C feeds into the rear seats, power rear slider, and a smooth driveline (get rid of the vibes, jebus) as well as maintaining offroad capability, I'll get a '17 or '18 as the successor to the 2005 Tundra in 2020 or so.

If it has the tiny side windows and the same short windshield, I don't know if I could live with that. I like a lot of visibility instead of ducking my head to look around.

It feels weird having gone with a '14 so close to the next gen Tacoma hitting the roads. I figured it was right around the corner but now it has me wondering if I should have waited, as much as I quite enjoy the 14. Damned consumerism!

As the owner of an older twin turbo vehicle (93 300zx TT), I consider turbos to be a wear item. Expensive wear items is not something I like having on a pickup. I like turn the key and go reliability at least until 200K. Under normal usage most of those ecoboosts will need one or both turbos by 150K. I think list price on those things is about $850 apiece. You can buy a used 3RZ complete for that money.

Your '14 will sell easily. If it's clean and you're patient and keep the price up to where you want it to be, the right buyer will come along. It happens all the time with Tacomas.
