Yeah that AEM FIC is sold. The URD one connects to the tach wire on the ECU and a intake mani vacuum/boost reference. They all fire at once I'm assuming

Sick dude! It's a shame you can't start a thead here... So how are you fueling and tuning again?

I guess I could start a build thread here. I'll just post everything twice, lol.

For tuning I'm not going to do anything real fancy. I did start on my DIY water/methanol injection system last weekend. I got the pump mounted, but that was as far as I got. My wife left her inside lights on and killed her car battery, so she took my 4Runner the rest of the weekend. Couldn't find the jumper cables, so had to throw her battery on the charger.

Are you going to put a nozzle right after the MAF then?

Not really sure where I want to put the nozzle. I've been contemplating either after the MAF, or pre-turbo, because pre-turbo helps with the turbo's efficiency, and looking at the compressor map, I suspect it'll be a bit inefficient at the higher RPMs.

I don't think compressor maps and turbo efficiency need to be worried about with a stock toyota engine at low boost. Your MAF won't appreciate pre turbo meth injection and your ride won't run right. I would be more worried about intercooling than turbo efficiency.

Being in an inefficient spot on the compressor map means higher air intake temps. I don't think the water/methanol mix will effect the MAF. After it's gone through the turbo it'll be vaporized. At least, that's what I've read. I guess I'll find out, lol. FedEx says my manifolds are getting here this Friday, I'm pretty stoked.

I remember reading it should be after the MAF as the water/meth will screw up the readings, but if you are using a piggy back controller to tune (with a MAP sensor), your MAF only needs to work at idle

Nice! Maybe you can put your MAF pre turbo and pre meth injector and find out if your 4Runner is driveable like that. The only time readings will be off is when decelerating so you might be able to pull that off. Our MAFs have tiny hairlike metal wires in them that actually measure each oxygen atom that passes between them and I wouldn't blow corrosive methanol through mine if you payed me to.

Nah, I'm not too worried about it. It's not like the MAF is getting drenched in liquid methanol. 60% of the liquid being injected is water (I'm not running straight meth), and it'll all be vaporized when it leaves the turbo compressor. If for some reason it does destroy the MAF I'll just move the nozzle post-turbo, post MAF.

I've kinda been thinking about running this W/M injection while I'm still NA. Just wire it to a switch and turn it on while I'm pulling a big hill just to see what happens. Trick is remembering to switch it back off when I'm done, lol.

Could u not wire a switch on ur throttle cable so its on at given amount of open throttle (or possibly on the back of ur gas pedal)? This would take out some of the remembering anyway

Very good idea. I saw some universal switches made for under pedal applications like brake lights and clutch safety on ebay a short time ago. I think they even sell them for nitrous oxide kits

Not really worth the effort. If I were going to stay NA I'd probably do it that way. Once it's boosted I'll use a pressure switch.

Gio, you got any videos of the turbo? Maybe driving around?

No, just the 0-60 vid with the unfinished charge pipes and fudged up MAF readings from it being right after a silicone elbow... Still did it in 8 seconds though with tons of junk in the bed :)
I've been taking it really easy lately to save gas for more Xmas present money. I might take some junk weight out of my bed and do a short vid this weekend.

Do you ever plan on getting a computer controlled injector setup? After a year or two you're going to be annoyed with having to hold a button down every time you wana pass someone or whatever. I would anyway
Oh and by the way you can get super heavy duty momentary switches (finger has to be on it for it to work) on ebay for $10-$15. I use one for my train horns.

Yeah, I'm going to use a pressure switch (you'll often hear it called a Hobbs switch) that activates at certain PSI. You can get it at Napa. It just won't work on a NA motor because it never sees boost. I'll probably set mine to 4psi to turn on, but I'll play with to see what works best.

The most common DIY water/methanol injection write up is here, it's the one I'm using:

Very interesting. I'd set it at the lowest possible psi because your intake temps are going to be rediculous in the TN summertime and part throttle boost. Looks like a solid setup though. Way cheaper than going with extra injectors.

Got my stuff in from CX yesterday! I felt like a kid at Christmas.

Hey Gio, question about your oil lines. Are you running any kind of restrictor in the feed line to the turbo?
