ABS on this truck is dangerous...

    Incorrect, all 2nd gens use a 4 channel ABS system. The master cylinder is not part of the ABS system either.

    When i driv.e in snow i disable the traction controls. The abs is still there but not as sensitive, pry had been mentioned in the thread but I was about to read 11 pages. Good luck

    My humour clearly offended you. My apologies. :eek: (I'm not kidding or being sarcastic in this post)

    Truth be told, some of this circular discussion seems pointless to me though, for the following reasons:

    -Many agree the Tacoma's ABS is overly sensitive at low speeds in slippery conditions, even with appropriate tires and when driving to conditions.
    -Those that don't agree don't have much helpful input to those that think the system is flawed.
    -There are already methods here on TW to install an ABS disable switch for off-road or slippery conditions if you so choose. I've never regretted the time and few $$ I spent for on/off on-the-fly ABS.

    The only positive thing to add to the thread was some humour, or so I thought. If not, carry on, don't mind me, I don't have to open the thread if I really don't want to.:cheers:

    But swear it seems to help. An any situation other than dry pavment.

    Come to think of it I wonder if those Highway Bus Passenger Coaches that "rear end" 18 wheelers aren't the result of the brakes releasing but It's just easier to blame the coach operator (and cheaper, of course), I suppose.

    So, the Insurance Co pays out some dough to a few hurt surviving passengers and raise the rates on all of us. Eventually another pigeon will come along when the "proper" road conditions are met. Kind of like auto lotto for the Ins Co's) The insurance Co pay a few while raping us all. Wish I had thought of it. Maybe ABS ain't so bad after all.

    Vsc is, on acceleration or maintained throttle. Not sure about trac, but abs is only brake system.

    Yes, partly. I believe that the ABS/VSC/TRAC controller sends a signal to the ECU to cut throttle response when wheelspin is detected when the throttle is pushed.

    I think the answer to the real question is no more throttle regulation without power to the ABS/VSC/TRAC controller.

    Someone correct me if I am wrong.

    It's not new, it's not Mexico
    Wednesday morning (12/10/2015) 0500, I'm going to work on I-25, traveling at the 75 MPH speed limit. There was a wreck with a car still in the right lane ahead of me that I didn't see 'til it was in my head lights. I jammed on the brakes as hard I as I could & the ABS function kicked on allowing me to steer around the disabled vehicle. Without ABS I would have plowed in to the other car with all four wheels locked and skidding.
    The sensation of emergency braking without the wheels locked up takes some getting used to, but the truck IS slowing down as quickly as possible and you can still steer.
    Yes, I was traveling too fast for the conditions or I wouldn't have had to jam on the brakes. :eek:

    I'd never disagree that these ABS systems work well at higher speeds on road. It's the low speed in slippery conditions and off-road that it is way oversensitive in my (and many other's) experience. Glad you survived unscathed to tell the tale.
