I just sold my 1998 Tacoma Extended Cab 4x4 TRD SR5 with 95k miles on it using Craigslist, and got top dollar for that great truck. I replaced it with a 2003 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 TRD SR5 Automatic with 60k miles that I found on Craigslist. It had just had its 60k and 4x4 dealer's service done plus a new timing belt and water pump installed, so coming across it the day after I sold my '98 was a real stroke of luck. I put less than 10k a year on my vehicles, so this '03 should last me for as long as I want to drive it - which, judging from my last Tacoma and the three previous to it that, should be about 5 years or so!

The 2003 I just purchased has all the SR5 and TRD options that are available, plus a bed liner, a bed extender, Alpine speakers and amp, Sway-A-Way coilovers up front, a Deaver 8 pack in the rear, 275/75/16 A/T's, All Pro sliders, and not a scratch on it anywhere. For as well as it is set up for off roading it has spent almost no time off the pavement, and it's chomping at the bit to take on something more adventurous than driving the freeways to work and back!

After five Toyota trucks, three of them new and the last two bought locally, you might say I'm someone who "rides for the brand." When it comes to reliability and an overall bullet proof nature, plus exceptional resale value when it's time to upgrade, Toyotas can't be beat! ..But then I'm preaching to the choir here, so please forgive me for that!!

Looking forward to hearing what others are up to with their Tacoma's, and learning new things in the process.

Welcome to TW. No need for apologies. No matter how much I know a Toyota truck rocks, I never get tired of hearing it from others. Be sure to post some pictures. Sounds like you got ahold of a nicely modified truck.

I appreciate the welcome, and look forward to spending some time reading the forums during the next few days. You're right, Toyota trucks will make a believer out of you if you let them!

I've been a Toyota fan since my 95' Tercel. I'm now 11 years into Toyota and have no intentions of owning anything else.

    Welcome to TacomaWorld!

My first Toyota was a 1983 "standard pickup" that my parents bought new before toyota had a real name for their trucks. Tacoma rolls off the tongue better. :p

Living here in redneck pickup country, we even have a F-150 plant in Kansas City, I have taken a lot of grief about my new Tacoma. I just let it bounce off. One my first tank of gas I got 24.82 MPG(OK 25), while any full size would do good to get 16 in my 65/35% hwy/city mix of driving. I have not run it hard yet, but have not baby'ed it either. Very impressed with the new 2.7L 4-cyl. This is my second Toyota PU, Many trucks may have outgrown the Tacoma but they won't outperform overall.

Many happy miles to you in your new Taco.

    Dan

That's funny. I gave my silver Tercel coupe to my mother who needed a reliable vehicle that got good gas mileage. Mine was perfect too. Never gave me a single problem. I kinda miss that car. My mother doesn't have it anymore. She donated it to charity.
