Wired a phone charger and LED into my RTT. No more dead phone batteries on camping trips.

I have a spare battery mounted under my tool box. I used a trailer harness from Harbor Freight to run power to the tent. One wire is power for the LED and another for the phone charger. I ran a separate ground wire (common ground). Next I'm adding a 12v electric blanket. Eventually I will replace the battery with a deep cycle, but it works for now. It also runs my 12v water pump that I use to get water from my jerry cans. I fans a 4gauge cable from the alternator to the battery so it charges from there but it will not work to start the truck

    nice job.

another good option for electric in the tent is install a 12v outlet in the bed thats hot all the time, then wire your leds, 12v outlet, whatever else in your tent to a long wire with a 12v plug at the end of it. set up tent, drop the power cord through the hinge hole, plug it in and enjoy.

That's cool. I've been considering putting a battery in those useless bed pockets for the same reason (even the electric blanket and water pump idea for the rotopax). So many ideas so like money/time. At least your getting it done lol

I think its important to use a second or "house" battery. I didn't want any of these circuits to possibly drain my starting battery and leave me stranded. Definitely can work in progress. The wiring works, but it looks like shit

I'm thinking of using a battery cable quick connect spliced into a pair of jumper cables. One end hooked to the house battery with the plug mounted to my rack and the other side of the connector on a long set of jumper cables that will reach my starting battery

Theres quite a few dual battery kits out there. Although that one is cheaper, I'd spend the money for a proven unit if you're going to trust it.

For 2 good quality batteries, isolator kit etc, you're looking at a big price tag.

I've been extremely impressed with my little booster pack (different brand but same idea).

This is how mine with the IBS management system is set up. Mine will deplete the auxiliary first then the main if needed. But, will shut out down at x charge allowing for cranking amps to avoid being stranded. The display is priceless when checking battery status.

    Thanks!

    Well worth it.

I think it is well worth the investment. To be able to link(for over loading with winch and/or isolating the batteries, self jumping, and at the same time as monitoring the status of each of my batteries are priceless features when running as many accessories as we do imo. I also added another plug(12v) in my bed for RTT accessories and one(12v) in the back seats of the cab. With those along with the lights, winch, air, etc.. I needed a piece of mind.

Pays for it's self 10 fold the first time you're in the middle of nowhere and you remember you won't have a dead battery :)

Thank you! Sorry I've been off the forum for a while. He has slept in the cab and also I've carried him up the ladder, really depends on how the wife feels about him sleeping with us LOL.
