Forgive my ignorance but whats so great about them? You'd think they'd be way too wide.

Haha well yes I know this. But why the ford kingpin specifically?? Is it like the chevy military axles that have 4.56s and a detroit already? I thought that ford axles are 8 lug as well... so that wouldn't be ideal if you were just replacing the rear...

Basically all factory d60's are 8 lug, the military chevy axles won't work on 2nd gen tacoma because of the driverside drop t-case. Plus all ford d60's are high pinion which is a big plus. Most people say kingpins are stronger but lots of people run balljoint axles without issues. You can turn down the d60 hubs and redrill them for 6x5.5 lug pattern so its a non issue.

Do both. 78-79 ford is good because the diff is on the correct side, few brackets to remove, and kingpins are strong. I think that is why.

Mark pipe in with more info :)

More room on the axle tube on the drivers side for link brackets and coilover placement as well.

What a lot of people are doing up here is cutting half the short side cast spring perch off, because the tube is pressed so far into the cast center there is still plenty of meat left to hold it. Just weld the tubes like you should anyway. After that is done you have plenty of room for a link mount and a coilover mount.

On any ford d60 from 86 to current. You can give yourself a lot of room to work with on the 05+ superduty axles to.

This is awesome! I found that you can find a few old trucks out there with axles for the same or less then if you buy the axles themselves. Then just part out the rest of the truck.

Also because of the expense of it all has anyone done just front first and do the rear at a later date? I was hoping to so the SAS the right way and then change out the rear when the money was available. Also just how much wider is a D60 over stock? I was thinking is was within a inch or so but not sure.

05+ tacoma's are 66 inches wms-wms. All ford d60s that came off non dually trucks are 69.25 inches wide. To put it into perspective the allpro +2 LT kit puts the wms-wms at 70 inches. So it really isnt that much wider then stock.

    05+ Tacomas are 65" WMS-WMS. 1st gen Tundras are 66" WMS-WMS.

So a 2nd gen Taco with a +2 kit would be 69" and on par with the Ford D60's.

Not sure what D60 and 14bolt rctoy used, but I thought he measured his at 72" WMS-WMS:notsure: I'd have to ask him again if he still knows off the top of his head.

Half inch per side, pretty close lol but Im pretty sure all ford d60's are 69.25. My 14 bolt in my garage is only 67 inches and it came out of a 96 diesel chevy 2500.
