Please Help

I had just recently used Penzoil Pure Plus on my Tacoma 4.0 and when I went to change the oil i seen this in the filler cap. I don't think I will ever use penzoil again since they changed there formula. Can someone please let me know if you think my Truck will be ok. I have swithced back to amsoil. I have always done 5,000 mile oil changes with only going over to 7,500 miles while changing the filter at 4,000 one time.

 

I believe that's a sign of water in your oil. Do you drive short distances? Not enough time for the engine to warm up and burn off the condensation will do that.

 

Pretty common when short trips and lower temps occur. Its normal for this time of year.

What everyone else said. Normal due to the extended filler neck also.

 

Not Pennzoil's fault, as others have said it's condensation and your engine isn't getting warmed up enough. I personally use Pennzoil Platinum whenever I can(used to use Ultra but I can't find 0w20 in that).

As others have stated, there's nothing wrong with your truck or Pennzoil.

While Amsoil is ok, its a boutique oil that really doesn't deserve all the hype it's given by it's secret vendor supply chain.

Modern oils with the SN API are almost as good as synthetics, well documented by independent oil testing.

Running a full synthetic, unless you have some abusive use of the vehicle, you should easily get 10k (or more) between changes.

To make yourself feel better, get a sample kit from Blackstone Labs and have them test it for you at your next 5k change.

i think it might have something to do with what how long the engine ran before you opened the cap. And how humid it's been etc. it's not an uncommon occurrence IIRC.

 

I use to use penzoil ultra platinum but the last time I bought it they had changed the formula using a natural gas base stock and I believe the aditives sepeprate from the base stock. I usually drive around 87 miles or more day while not driving under 40 miles one way. It has been a little cold though around 25 to 35 degrees. I don't doubt penzoil I have always liked there products. My dad has run it in his Dodge Avenger and it has over 300,000 miles on it.

 

Its already been said but everythings good. Ive used nothing but Mobil 1 in all my vehicles and I have seen the exact same thing a time or two.
