Good morning. :pccoffee: Is almost ready. I need to fix the hot water heater today. The overflow valve needs to be replaced. Nice project for today.

We should have a price for cabinets and countertops this week. I so hope it is only around 20K. Started to look at floor tile and back splash tile on the internet. The tile guy should also make a visit this week. Need a price from him as well.

[IMG] Morning All... Up early on a Sunday to help out at a friends racing event. It's called the "Freezer Run". Proceeds from the 5K race/walk go to helping the needy pay for heating oil and gas this winter. Had about 180 people signed up last year and over 500 this year :woot:. Volunteering is fun all except for the hours you have to get up. Have a good day all [IMG].
    Nap time later.

[IMG] for Charlie and his family:pray:.

You are a good man Ken! That is one heck of a growth from 180 to over 500. Event planners have to be pleased and it is for a good cause. With so many moms and dads out of work families are really struggling to make ends meet these days.

Glad the protestors stayed out of the way. From what I'm hearing, somebody over there better change up the game on those bears, or they're never gonna get a handle on the nuisance bears. I guess it'll take some kid getting attacked in their front yard before they do anything ... and that's too late IMHO. :frusty: **abort rant **

No worries about the no news ... I'm keeping the faith.
    Thanks Paul.

Yep, I knew about the hiker getting killed ... but from what I've heard from John, Chas, and you ... they really aren't grasping that they have a nuisance/over-population bear problem that is growing. Once a bear starts rummaging garbage in neighborhoods he learns that's where the easy meals are; it's not rocket science. If they can't trap and relocate far enough away that they don't return, the only correct action is to put the bear down. And you're exactly right, they need to open up an earlier and longer season to try and bring the population under control, or at least within reason. I'm sure the politics in NJ make the reality of that happening a very long shot at best. It's frustrating and unfair to the residents who have to deal with the problem as well as being wrong for the bears.

    Morning all:
Paul, didn't they have bear season closed for awhile in NJ? Looks like it worked!

Good that the weather is cooperating for the race Ken.

I have heard Park Rangers tell tales of bears relocated 200 miles away, on the Blueridge mountains, and they return to their same feeding grounds.

    Afternoon all:
Just got done skinning and quartering the deer, now just have to take it to the guy that makes the goodies out of it. Those darn things are work!
    Flintlock next! :D

Just saw on another forum about a guy that has 10 DUI's. He blamed the last one on eating beer battered fish.
Funny how the young guys really come down on that but think nothing of texting while driving. The number of highway deaths, that are texting related, are fast approaching the number of deaths caused by drunken drivers.

    Good morning one and all.

About the bears. How restrictive are the methods of take? Is spot and stalk, hope one walks by, hounds, or bait allowed?

Even in country with plenty of bears the chance of encountering one within a specific time period is pretty slim. If one spends considerable time in the woods, one will bump into one sooner or later. However, that is quite a bit different than going out with the intent of seeing one in the fall. The best chance of that occurring would be in an old orchard or a wild berry patch.

Spring is a different story. In this area one can glass open hillsides and catch them filling up with early grasses and the occasional rodent and bug.

I've got a few home chores to do this morning, and since it is supposed to be in the 40's and dry I am going to try to get some shooting in this afternoon.

    Morning all.

Day one of hwy corridor nuisance moose hunt. Too bad sun won't be up for another 4 hrs. Anxious ... Not like before normal fall hunts, but still that feeling.

Yeah, with the east coast population density of people, and the bear population as well, I don't think relocation will work. They need to open up new seasons and methods, as Mike is saying. Problem is, it has to be managed well, or things flip back in the other direction. It's a delicate balance which does not work well politically; nobody comes to the middle of the table on issues any more ... :frusty:

Don't press about Charlie on our account. I'm keeping the faith, and I know when he wants us to know something, we will.
