It's not new, it's not Mexico
My stock all season tires are not suitable for ice, ABS or not.

    No it was dry.

    E. None of the above.
Seriously, the one time it's snowed here since I've owned the truck, the ABS never kicked in. The brakes locked up & the truck started to drift sideways, not slowing down at all. Traffic was going real slow so I was able to modulate the brakes the old fashioned way & get stopped. The problem with my truck is the all season tires don't have grip in snow or ice. The brakes are just fine.

I have an ABS disable switch in my truck. There's a how to on here. It tricks the truck into thinking the factory E-locker (doesn't matter if you have one or not) is engaged, which disables ABS.

Very nice for offroad and in the snow.

Oh , ABS on dry surfaces , pretty sure no one was arguing that ABS doesn't work there

That's what you're supposed to do! Anybody who has driven on ice has had an experience like that. Nobody is arguing that stopping on snow and ice is a fun time.

The point is that when ABS does kick in when making a *controlled stop on snow and ice, many of us have suddenly experienced what I like to call, the "ABS Ice Pucker".

Pretty much what this is about.
I dont know where all those people who prefer steering over stopping drive. Dubai Desert?
Why depend on ABS if you can cut your breaks all together, than no wheel locking....
    .........ever

    What???
If you're trying to say skidding is better than controlled breaking, then I don't even know how to respond to that.

That's good if you can move into another lane. I couldn't change lanes due to the heavy traffic. On my 2005, the ABS kicked in and released my brakes, causing me to slam into the vehicle in front of me.
Absolutely! A great mod for 4-wheel diving. Hopefully, my 2014 won't have the dry pavement 2-wheel drive ABS problems that my 2005 had.
I had problems on my 2005 TRD Access Cab.

I still love that people are pinning there accidents on ABS. If you feel out of control when you hammered your breaks, you were going to fast for the conditions, tail gating, etc.

Don't blame a computer for your mistakes. I agree that this thread has little in the way for help for EITHER people who are for or against ABS. If you hate the ABS on your Tacoma, disable it and have fun. That's just one less component you can blame for your next wreak. Its really that simple.

This has been said multiple times in this thread. It doesn't explain the 5 to 10 mph stops and ABS kicks in and you almost rearend the car 15-20 feet in front of you.

This right here. If you have to get to the point of making a mound of snow in front of your tires to stop before you hit something.... you need to slow the eff down.

If you think getting rid of ABS on an icy road is going to save you, you are in for a rude awakening.

You are totally incorrect about the advantage of ploughing snow for stopping , ABS increases stopping distances on snow versus ploughing , that's a fact

and I totally agree , ABS is no good on ice
