Icon Buyer Beware!!!! (OP caught in lie. Icon called OP Out) open post thread ;)

I bought these ICON coilovers BRAND NEW from a member on this forum. I had old donahoes on my truck for about a year and I never had any problem with it. So I decided to buy these because I trusted the quality and all the good things I've heard. So I pulled the trigger and bought these from doeg and installed it on late March, 2014. I've taken my truck off roading TWICE to Santiago Peak and Holy Jim, because I don't have alot of time due to school and work, plus I always pressure wash the undercarriage to prevent rust. About 3 weeks ago I was inspecting my car and I found the lower end of both shafts are pitted and a little rusty, and both side were LEAKING from the top mounts. Well i decided to called Icon today and they totally turned me down because the warranty is expired since the original owner bought them in late 2012 but never run them. On top of that, Icon wants to charge me for a full rebuild plus new shafts which is ridiculous. I am really upset right now because I was planning to go to Pismo for the winter break....... I will be selling this POS soon and buy Kings or Radflo since they are closer to my house.

I bought their Piggyback and the right shock went out within 10 minutes driven on the street.



Called Icon and they rebuild both side and it started to leak again after 3 months

 

Have you been spending time in sandy areas? Like pismo. Cuz that could cause this on any shock.

 

I spent most of my time either working or going to school. Havn't been to Pismo, but planning to go in this winter break

 

Sorry man. That sucks. Ive had 0 issues with mine and mine have been to pismo and in the ocean.

 

Fk yeah it sucks I paid too much money for them and they didn't even last for a year. Monroe shocks don't even rust like that

 

How much is Icon wanting to rebuild?

 

Are they broken or just some rust? And you should have titled it "Used ICON Buyer Beware"

Does the oil not protect it though? If the suspension sat around and wasn't being cycled, then it would be more likely to corrode while sitting for 2 years than if it were being used (even if just on pavement with the occasional speed bump/driveway), no? Lack of use would also lead to seals drying and cracking, right?

Serious question.

 

I've already called Icon and they told me to cough up $320 for new shafts and rebuild since I am not the original buyer, even then I feel like Icon should stand behind their product. Only 9 months of use, really?? this gotta be worse than MONROE shocks.

I had my old donahoe and they were never this bad. My friend toytec coilovers shafts are still shiny even though it has more than 30,000 miles and he drives on the street just as much as I do.

Let’s be clear about the facts here. You called in earlier letting us know that you purchased a set of coilovers from our web store in March, but we were unable to locate this order. So from there we asked for you to send over pictures, and upon doing so noticed that they had a serial number logging information that they were built in May of 2012. Taking this into consideration it is possible that you did buy them new in March (not from our web store as stated), so we asked you to go ahead and send them in for warranty evaluation with the original purchase receipt or proof of purchase. ICON offers a warranty to the original purchaser for 1 year for manufacturer defects. We unfortunately have no idea what these have been through over the last 2.5 years, used or not. Components like this, motors, transmissions, etc. are designed to be used and not sit around.
