air filter change out ??

hey guys i wasn changing my stock filter to k&n filter, and noticed on that there is a double filter system on the newer models taco's? the one you change is in the intake, and the one that stays or doesnt take out is closer to the trottle bodys, i have not seen this before. is it double protection or what it it? does it take out?

 

IIRC, it offers more protection, but many have taken it out.

 

Any extra protection it might offer is negligable because your primary filter takes care of anything big enough to harm the engine. The secondary filter is a charcoal based filter and is used for emission purposes to absorb any fuel vapors that escape the engine after shutdown.

thanks a bunch guys, i was wondering what the heck was that, never seen it on other cars ever, i will look into taking it out, it already eats too much gas lol
