You just answered it yourself! You do 20/5 before 5(4) because division comes first in the problem reading left to right!

Did you not read what i re-highlighted in red? It says multiplication and division are the same therefore it is whichever comes in the problem first when reading left to right.

The only thing parentheses add is that they come first in operation making it a (4) there is nothing else that parentheses do in the function of math order..

 

Honestly it all depends on how you write the problem.
20/5 (2*2) could be (20/5)*(2*2) or as I interpreted it 20/(5*(2*2)). It changes the answer. android uses common core
