Anti-traction turns on without warning

While driving on highway under normal conditions, the anti-traction light starts blinking & the anti-traction control activates without warning. I have to stop my 09 Tacoma, turn off the engine & wait several seconds before starting again. This process may go on several times before the anti-traction quits activating. I have a base model, with 4 cyl. engine & 119,700 miles. Any suggestions on solving this problem? I have tried turning the anti-traction off but that does not work.

chances are one of the speed sensors has some debris on it. may be a bearing starting to come apart or just some road debris. just need to check the code to see which wheel it is and remove and inspect. if the debris is metalic than you have a wheel bearing starting to fail. if there is no debris on the sensor than it could just be the sensor itself malfunctioning.

Can you turn if off via the regular procedure or is that over-ridden as well ?

I have already checked bearings and replaced one assembly. Just before the problem begins, my engine gets rough like it is missing or not getting enough gas. I have also replaced spark plugs. I cannot get a sensor reading because by the time I get to a mechanic, the problem has left. I have tried to turn off anti-traction, but that does not work. Please continue to reply.

Just to clarify , when you say " anti traction activates " do you mean the throttle cut or the ABS style brake modulation ?

Just the throttle cut. There is no ABS brake modulation.

check the sensors. pull each sensor out and inspect it...dont assume bc it only does it once in awile that they are fine.

I had O'Reilly do a diagnostic check & they found a Trouble Code p0302. I have recently replaced plugs. The anti-traction throttle cut appears to be caused by the misfire. Any information on a p0302 code would be greatly appreciated.

when this happened, "the anti-traction light" was the check engine light coming on aswell?
P0302 is a missfire code for cylinder #2. could be a plug, a coil, an injector, or a combination of the 3. since you had the plugs replaced i would check the coil. swap it with another cylinder and see if the missfire code jumps to that cylinder...if it does, its a coil, if it stays on the same cylinder could be an injector.

You need some anti-matter to counteract the dilithium crystal overload in the anti-traction system.

J/K OP. But I have very little clue what you're talking about. ABS??

Check the coil pack for cracks in the rubber boot - move it to another cylinder and determine if the trouble code moves to that cylinder. If so it's the coil pack.

What do I need to do to address dilithium chamber corrosion? Also, I check a recent service ticket & my mechanic found the po302 code and changed the plug and coil. Is there anything else I should look for that is causing the misfire?

just b/c he replaced it doesnt mean it isnt bad. swap that coil with another one and see if the missfire jumps to that cylinder..its very simple to do. if it doesnt jump the next thing i would do is run a fuel injector service through it for the injector. it could be just dirty or faulty. your worse case scenario would be a bad cylinder but you need to do some leg work to get to that point first.
