As long as you get the exact truck you want who cares if it's in the lot or ordered

Yep, I delt with a lot of that B.S. when trying to order. If it wasn't for Tacoma World, I don't think I would have been able to call out the B.S. either, so thanks TW!

This one sales guy at the dealership closest to me, actually put me down and laughed at me telling me that the all weather flooring didn't exist as an option on a Tacoma, only the FJ, and that he had been selling Toyotas for over 15 years and knows this for sure. He says this after I have already seen pictures online of that exact flooring in a new Tacoma.

He also knew that Toyota doesn't take orders for Tacomas, and that I would be better off with the SR5 model on their lot in a different color than the OR model that I really wanted. Douch bag! I sent him back an email after I took delivery of my ordered truck in the color I wanted with the all weather flooring, and told him he wasn't very knowledgeable about Tacomas for selling Toyota's for 15 years. I just can't believe how the majority of dealerships treat customers prepared to drop over 30k on a new vehicle!

I don't think anyone would care. However, they make very limited amounts of certain colors with specific options so sometimes ordering is the only way to get the exact color and options you want.

It's not always possible to find your truck at another dealership. Blue and green OR trucks in general (without even considering specific options) were very hard to find when I was looking. No dealership could find the color and basic options that I wanted in an OR anywhere in the U.S., even without the all weather flooring. They couldn't even find one in my second color choice either!

I bought my truck at Prime Toyota in Saco, Maine and I got told from them "that can't be done" and that they can only put in for "allocation" and try to find one in the area....or get one allocated to them.

I ended up buying one they had coming in that was close enough to what I wanted.

I know it can be done, because I did it! It went down exactly as I said where they changed the color and options on a VIN they already had ordered. But only a high volume dealer in my area was willing to do it, four or five other dealers shot me down or lied and said it can't be done.

Sounds like you got talked into settling for a truck close to what you wanted but not exactly what you wanted. I'm surprised he didn't try to strong arm you into one they already had on their lot. Your salesman just knew he would make the sale without ordering and waiting so he lied to you. They would rather go find one and make the sale immediately than wait 3 months for an order to come in before finalizing the sale.

It almost seems to me like smaller low volume dealers might not have the pull with Toyota to place orders on demand. Not sure if that's true or not. There has to be something related to the fact that only my largest volume dealer in my tri-state area would do it, and the O.P. also said only his largest volume dealer is the one willing to place the order as well and all others shot both of us down.

Wait a minute, you guys are talking about the exact same dealer though! So one sales guy can place an order, but another can't at the same dealer? Crazy!

I think they can and grumpy's salesman probably could just tell he could still make the sale without ordering, so he denied the order to get the immediate sale on allocation.

I ordered the last several trucks I got.
Dodge Chevy and Ford still do it from what I have seen.

Just that Toyota does not to it and will not.

One of the dodge Rams I had went 150k and never hit the shop. I did my oil cba ges and other stuff. No recalls or problems.
It was ordered down to the lights, tow gear and bed liner.
Even had a block heater abd other things the dealer did not know you could get.
Took about 60 to 90 days and got to pick the location, USA not Mexico.
Also had my name printed on the window sticker.

Toyota's like "here's what we got, if you don't want it go away, lots of other people behind you in line to buy." Ever notice they never advertise or put special deals on TV for Tacomas. They sell like flapjacks at breakfast time.:D

I'm having trouble reading the sheet even when I lay on my side.
What are the special things you ordered that are not usually found.
I may need to order from my dealer soon.

I don't want to be that guy, but that exact truck is setting at my local Toyota dealership that I have bought all my Yotas from. Grant it, I'm in Kentucky but that wasn't a hard find. Anyways, congrats on the 4Runner.

Yah...I'm up in Maine......there were none in the north east. As far as my research goes I got a decent deal....but I'm curious to know if anyone else got a premium trail edition with KDSS for less ( not including tax because that varies from state to state.). Before taxes I'm at 38k....

I'm not going to haggle over $500 to $1000 in price....we agreed on what we both thought was fair and he's gonna hook me up with tint roof rack and remote start.

Pics to come when it comes in.
