    Hola mi amigos!

I'm looking into buying a Tacoma soon and I'm having trouble deciding between a 2nd Gen and brand new. I've searched but I can't seem to find what the main differences are between them.

I'm set on a v6, 4x4, manual with an access cab. It'll be my daily driver exclusively for some time. No forseeable modifications, but after I get a job with less of a commute I'll end up throwing a modest lift and 31's on her.

Essentially, I'm seeing ~08's with under 100k miles for around 20k. Whereas I could go new for ~30k. I've just got a hard time justifying 30k, I guess.

Any insight or input is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Nothing wrong with buying used at all. But my decision for new is I will be the one putting the 100k on the truck. Yeah Toyota reliability blah blah blah, but I don't care, I want to be the one who takes care of it from the moment it leaves the lot. That and Tacoma resale is so damn high, it makes sense to buy new.

I'd go over any used Tacoma with a fine tooth comb. Not sure where you are located, but if you are up North or in a high road salt area, you need to be VERY speculative on any possible areas of rust in the under carriage.

My 2 cents. I can't really be of help on going used. I looked for used but prices weren't justifiable over new, and new vehicle financing.

if buying new is an option, why not wait a year and see what the 2016 re-designs look like/perform. you'd be one of the first to rub it in our faces.

Hahaha yep. But honestly, I bought my 00 dirt cheap and I've only done maintenance in 100k. Can't complain one bit and I've really beat the snot out of it.

Are there any prospects as to what the 2016 will have in store?

I am not sure I understand the thread title. A 2015 Tacoma is a 2nd Gen taco.

As you pointed out, the resale is so high you can get a new Taco for a few thousand more than an old one. Here's a thought to stew on. Most car companies new models suck the 1st year. They are released with too little testing and are plagued with issues that get resolved of the next few years. If the 2016 is really going to be a 3rd Gen Tacoma, you would want to steer clear of it. I would go with a 2015 or if you can find a 2014 new on the lot then you can get it at a discount.

    Good point about waiting.

Regarding the tittle, I figured the '15 was a 2nd gen, however the this sub-forum defined them as "up to '14".

    But thank you, regardless.

I'm going 2015... Plenty of support and a known commodity. 2016 may look cool, but 2015 is a proven warrior.
I've got a 2015 double cab 4x4 trd sport with nav. For $31,500 + tax. I see guys with better deals posted, but this is the best I can get. 2016 will definitely cost msrp. There may be better deals as the 2016 gets announced and the 2015 dries up, but you may not get what you want.

As for a used 2nd Gen taco, like others have said, inspect it. I bought my 06 in 2011 with 60k miles and have had zero issues with it. im now at 130K and it still feels like new.

i paid right at $18k for mine in 2011. yeah, resale is awesome in these trucks.

When I was shopping for a Tacoma, I planned originally to buy used. However, the used market had high resale value everywhere I looked even with higher mileage. In the end, I picked up newer Tacoma with 7k miles. If buying new is an option, I’d go that route.

Thanks to everyone for chiming in, and so quickly. It's awesome to see such activity, that's the kind of forum I like to be on!

How cheap have you guys seen '15's going for in the same/similar trim? I need to stop shaving for a while so I can look like a mad-man when I start the haggle-battle.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
2015 is a second gen, but there are lots of nice used outfits out there. Watch prices though, sometimes used ones go for a few thousand less than a brand new one.
